Honorable mentions: Bob Davie (New Mexico), Skip Holtz (Louisiana Tech)

In this tier, sometimes things are good ... and then sometimes things are not so good. These coaches aren't necessarily on the hot seat, but they might not be far off. They may not be a hot coaching name in September, but that might change by November (or vice versa). Some are coaching journeymen. In short, these are the coaches whose careers have been filled with more extreme highs and lows than most of their counterparts.

I mean, looking at the last 4 years, it's pretty hard to argue otherwise.

I stopped reading at Kirby in with Blue Blood champions. Who knows where he will land eventually but no one goes into "Steve Spurrier" tier when they've only been a HC for 2 seasons. Best up-and-comer maybe but yikes. Same for Riley - good trajectory but you still gotta do the time.

Yeah, I quit reading at "Kirby the Young Genius". Yes, he had a very good season in 2017 against a pretty lame schedule, but
he looked like an idiot half the time in 2016. Let's give it a few more years.

Another stupid offseason article.

So we have the highest-paid Most-Inconsistent coach in America.
He's not even the highest paid coach on that list, dumbass. In fact, of the seven P5 coaches listed, Johnson is the fifth-highest paid coach, only ahead of Fedora and Mason.

Johnson is the 40th highest paid coach in college football. If you think there are 39 head coaches that are better than him, you're an idiot.

run the numbers on compensation per win. He's right up there with Kirby and Saban.
