Hype Train Boyz... explain this

Bobby Cremins ... the battle field has changed. This is not the 80 or 90s... heck it is not even the 00s.

APR changes in 2011 have created more football graduates and basketball graduates but has hurt GTs ability to get and keep talent.

3 phones and a bag man will get you a recruit that must pass minimums to get into GT and then must stay on course to graduate or... fail APR.

Thinking a committed recruiting coach will get GT to uga recruiting rankings is a false hope at best. Also the coach is going to have to start dropping or strong arming non starters to make room for new likely starting players.
1) Yes, recruits must be able to pass at Georgia Tech to keep 'APR' percents up.
2) No, we probably can't reach UGA's recruiting rankings. That's not the point. Only the most naive of Pollyannas are suggesting that.
3) A head coach's number one priority should be to make his football program as successful as possible (yes, that includes graduating players), not prove to the world a certain offensive scheme can succeed.
4) 'Can't' never could. 'Try' did everything.

Well you would be wrong. Hard work and giftedness matters a lot like in any job. Bobby Cremins recruited ok at GT.

Paul Hewitt recruited well, too. Basketball recruiting went downhill when the writing was on the wall that Hewitt's days were numbered and we were forced to hire on the cheap because of his rollover contract. Gregory was a terrible recruiter. Pastner is a little better, but still not great, and we're getting to the point where current high school basketball players have little to no memory of us ever being any good.

The GT issues are real. Granted, staying in school at GT now is a helluva lot easier than ever. But recruiting with UGA or Clemson is not the goal or expectation. Recruiting and beating Ole Miss, UNC, SC, Vandy, NC state, etc. is the goal. If Collins can get us to top 25 consistently in recruiting, we at least have a chance to compete for ACC Championships consistently.

I was listening to Tom Luginbill yesterday morning on XM. An NC state fan asked him about the Griffin kid in Rome staying committed. He and McElroy said Griffin goes to GT if GT wants him but the bigger issue is many of these SEC and ACC schools plucking 4 stars from GA just changed. Luginbill, no fan of GT, said basically NC state and others are not going to beat Collins for recruits. The landscape has drastically changed in Georgia.

Annually getting into the Top 25 would be a miracle. We're in the mid to low 50s now. If we creep into the low 40s and mid 30s, then we'll blow the doors off most people in the Coastal.

Top 25s...we'll get a ton of cracks at conference championships, imo.

We will finish in the top 40-43 this year. We will be top 15-20 next year. I expect us to be top 25 consistently. Collins is a great recruiter and is putting together a helluva recruiting staff. Andy Mac will likely stay in some capacity as he is helping Colllins a lot.

Help enlighten me on why basketball cannot bring in top ranked recruits given our excellent 100% all out congenial for the people never cranky never smirky people person and recruiting coach... is he just not dedicated like CPJ was not dedicated or did the option hurt basketball recruiting too.

By the way, I like the BB coach, I just don’t like some of you ; )
Johnson stepped down, he wasn't fired. What are we supposed to do? Dry it up

I'm hyped, but man, that's some crazy expectations.

We all know there are issues and challenges in recruiting at Tech, but don't we ever get tired of lamenting them? Here we have a guy in CGC who is out there selling Tech's challenges as advantages; a great degree AND big time football. Nobody thinks that we are aiming to match uga in the recruiting rankings, but I think it is becoming clear that we could indeed do better than we have done. If it's so hard to get good players into Tech and keep them eligible, why do we offer so many of them? We offered 28 of the top 50 Georgia recruits.

The following schools in our conference, according to Rivals, all have higher rated classes than ours right now (other than the usual suspects of Clemson, Miami and FSU): Virginia Tech, Virginia, Pitt, NC State, Duke, and Wake, FRICKIN WAKE. And let's face it- the only reason UNC and Louisville aren't are because of the coaching changes and crappy seasons there. We can do better, and we will do better. No, recruiting won't solve everything. Coaches have to coach well, keep players eligible and graduate them. But why are we obligated to give up, and accept being behind the 8 ball talent-wise?

I was not a big fan of the Gregory and Pastner basketball hires, largely because they were guys who Dayton and Memphis fans wanted gone. However, once they were hired, I sucked it up and got on board.

It's fine to express reservations, but you're going to be pretty miserable if you plan to spend the next several years pining for Paul Johnson and poo-pooing everything Collins does.

How do you figure that? I don't think we have enough spots available unless a bunch of guys transfer out or we pull several 4 and 5 star guys before Feb.

There's no reason why we can't have a great recruiter HC and an innovative OC.

We should sign 23-25 in this class. Figure we get Griffin in February so that will be a good bump. Hoping for 2 more 4 stars.

I think his problem has nothing to do with CPJ leaving or CGC coming on in; this board has people on it that feel like they have to poo-poo everything about Paul Johnson from his personality, to his offense, to his recruiting and beyond to build up CGC. Anyone like myself who is excited about CGC coming in; but am excited about it without throwing stones at CPJ is accused of being butt hurt or whatever.
