Yes, overall, I do think that he did quite good. Go back and look at the list--why do you think that GT has topped out with good coaches at 58-60% over the last 50 years? I'll give you a hint it ain't just the coach.

I enjoyed CPJ after the play not to lose of Channy. CPJ's deficiencies with defense and special teams was catching up to him against better opponents.

I'm excited to see what CGC and staff can do as well as they can answer a long held question of whether or not you can recruit to GT a high level on a more consistent basis versus an outlier year here or there. I'll be estatic if CGC takes us to 2 Orange Bowls in the next decade.

I just don’t understand the fascination with oranges and uga.. it’s almost as if CGC beat uga every year and went 1-11, y’all would be happy.

I don’t give a sht about 2 great seasons with 9 mediocre ones. Gimme a bowl win every year and constant progress upward and bettering an organization over time..

I certainly don’t disagree with you 18. I was just a huge O’Leary/Friedgen fan, but yeah, having put it that way, you won’t get an argument from me.

He doesn’t just hate Johnson cause he read some stuff about him....

Agreed, that’s why I want Sean’s perspective as a counter. If you listen to @JacketForLife, CPJ ruined GT football and everyone hated him.

I hear you and agree. But you and I aren’t the audience. The audience that matters are recruits. GT fans will be here whether we go 3-9 or 9-3. I’m talking about 14-17 year olds who are the future stars who have listened to the hype and then what they see on the field is a bad version of the triple option. I’m in South Georgia and I’ve had many folks ask me a variation of “I thought you guys dumped the option and were going to have a real offense but after watching the games your new coach is running the same stuff that doesn’t work”. What can I say to that? No one cares about a 10 minute discussion of “we are building and Tobias can’t throw”. After the Clemson game I had folks saying we didn’t even try when we ran sweeps on 3rd and 18. We lost a lot of the folks who were giving us a chance to be their second team. For instance we have a lot of FSU fans down here who are looking for a pet project while they suffer for the next half decade and many of whom like GT. They were saying FSU sucks but at least they can score. I just want Collins to do whatever it takes so we can lure the talent here so we aren’t getting manhandled in a few years. If I’m a wide receiver on GT or being recruited I would feel let down so far because of what we heard all off season and saw in the spring game. Let Graham fling it around and scramble and let’s see some sparks. Eventually sparks turn to fire.

No, I wouldn't be happy with 1-11. You don't understand why going to the first orange bowls since '67 was a big deal? Wins over Ugag = great season, period.

I actually thought he had 4 great seasons ('09, '16 included).

That's the point that you missed on the coach's list (regarding a bowl win every year and constant progress), GT simply hasn't done that since the early 60s for more than a few seasons at a time. So, when a coach does what I outlined, I think it is a big deal and I enjoyed watching it.

Would be awesome if CGC can buck the trend of GT's history since Dodd.

I understand why they were a big deal. But my point is what changed because of them? Really, nothing. The state the program was essentially left the same or worse after CPJ being head coach.

If you’re opinion is that the state of the program is dictated by how often we beat uga or go to an orange bowl... I guess your opinion would differ on that

The state of the program isn't solely dictated by beating ugag or orange bowls, but those are certainly big deals for driving excitement and buzz (pun intended). For the overall program to change, you'd need to have years like '14/'16 back to back or 3 in a row of them. Even then, I question the sustainability of such a run barring a fundamental change of GT and/or CGC being the best since Dodd. If CGC can do that, I'll contribute to the statute of him outside of the stadium.

These are people not robots. This isn’t a video game. You’re blind if you don’t see that the strength of relationships is the key to any good culture. If you don’t have those relationships, it may be harder to let them go, but it will be much harder to keep them around. Performance and results are the ultimate metric, but you won’t get either without strong working relationships at the top. That’s why Clemson has paid up to keep top assistants on board, and the strength of the relationships between Dabo and his assistants has served them well.
