Then why go to school in the first place? Trust me, I have thought this through.
To showcase their talents for the league? No reason for the NFL to spend $ on a development league/minor league of their own when colleges do it for free.

If a local restaurant wanted me to pay me to advertise their restaurant to on my IG/twitter/FB where i have thousands or millions of followers that should not be an issue.
That does not seem responsive to what I asked about...? Are you saying that you don't care about letting boosters pay recruits for their likenesses?

No i don’t
So a booster comes to a kid being recruited by Georgia and says “man you’d look good on a billboard advertising my New car lot, I could probably pay you $20,000 for that.” But of course if they came to Georgia. Doesn’t bother you?

You don’t think this hurts Tech football as a disadvantage to uga?

Thanks for your honesty. What you're proposing is simply an open market for college athletes, and whoever has the most and cares the most can pay the most to get the most talent. I don't know how that will shape the competitive dynamics of college athletics, but it will certainly change the attitude, motivations and character of our players. And that's the part of college athletics I like the most. So my opinion is, no thanks.

Considering the bragging we do about being wealthy and owning businesses it is odd that we think other schools could out pay us.

Get more students and alumni who care. It’s not as if we have donors falling over themselves to pay money. We have done a good job lately but that is a recent trend.

This thread is few days old and people still don’t understand what is going on lol.

I can remember during my Gailey years he would allow memorabilia collectors outside the locker room and have us sign footballs. The fact some of you guys think it would’ve been wrong me to charge $5-20 and collect money for MY signature is insane while the collectors make hundreds or thousands
Gailey was wrong for giving memorabilia vendors that sort of access. The solution to that problem is not 'let bag man pay a player $xK for a signature on a football'.

They not only can, they would. We aren't even close to the highest revenue generating Athletic Dept in the southeast, much less the country.

I think it probably puts uga and Tech into two different levels of the sport and we won't be playing each other anymore. Heck...that might be ok after all.

If you go the complete laissez faire contracting rules for NCAA athletes, you would absolutely have to include some sort English Premiere League promotion/demotion system. You'd basically have the economics of MLB where the small town/market teams get squeezed out but without the drafting mechanism to flush in replacement talent.

How is the little guy supposed to compete?

There's a reason FCS vs FBS games don't ever capture College Gameday fanfare or national appeal.

I don't think they will compete.....totally separate levels of the game.

People who are ok with this are willing to throw out all of the traditions that the institute has ever had. Are you gonna change the ööööing fight song? We play big boy power 5 football. Some of you would be ok with throwing in the towel?

You are going to lose a lot of fans that’s all I’m saying. Tech can’t afford to do that.

No, it would be more of a situation where we retire after a long series of losing via first round knockouts.

This is killing me guys. I wouldn’t be able to cheer for the jackets to beat uga. The wins haven’t come all the time but for those special seasons I’ve gotten to hold up a middle finger to every uga fan I know, all while touting the fact that I cheer for real Student athletes.

Idk how life would be without this special time of year.
