CGC naysayers check in

Three, which I believe is less than the DL we lost before and during the game. The diff is the announcers talked about their injuries but talked about crap like their own personal mix tapes when our guys were hurt.

We were manhandling their OL late. How does that even happen?!? Not taking away from our guy's hard work in the offseason, but damn.
This is really mostly Jimbo Fisher's fault. He pretty much messed up OL recruiting his last few years and then jumped off his sinking ship with a $75M TAMU bailout. FSU has been rebuilding it's line almost to the same magnitude as we had to do and they were very thin going into this game. They didnt have room for a single injury and had 4 OL injured by the end of the game. Thats why we destroyed them in the 4th quarter. Their OL is going to be what limits their program this year and next.

Oh no. Please, naysayers, try not killing yourselves because you can't see that fake 4th down play anymore where each AB goes in motion behind the QB before we call a timeout and punt.
Gailey used that the most. And never actually ran a play.

My recollection is that CPJ ran the “draw them offside” play a lot, and I don’t remember it at all from Gailey (so it at least wasn’t as prominent under Gailey).

People do have a short memory about the effectiveness under CPJ. It didn’t work the majority of the time, but it worked occasionally (sometimes more than once in a game).

It worked a lot in the ncst game. And we ran out of it a handful of times.

Gailey definitely ran it. But he ran it less since we weren’t in 4th and short as often. That and Gailey had fewer timeouts to call since we would burn them on the first play of each half.

This was a great W and CGC, CDP, CAT deserve a ton of praise. We need some more data points though. In two months we might look back at FSU as having the worst offense on the schedule (not even really a stretch IMHO).

Still, as we accumulate more data points, whatever they may be, this one will stand proudly in the positive column.

I’ve always been in wait-and-see mode with CGC. Cautiously optimistic given recruiting results both in the HS and Transfer markets. This win keeps me leaning forward for sure.

I actually preferred that because I'm a cheap ass who doesn't have cable, but does have my sister in law's login ID for the ESPN App on Roku. My antenna was acting up during the storm.
You should be able to watch ABC games on the ESPN app, as well.

In 2016, which would be this year's RS-Jrs and Srs, FSU had 5 four star OL in one class. If that's screwing up recruiting, gimme some of dat. 2018, they signed Christian Meadows and Christian Armstrong (both of whom we wanted), got a high four star in 2019, and brought in a higher rated OL class than us last year (a four star and 3 high three stars). They may have OL issues, but nobody in power 5 even begins to touch the job Brent Key has had to do converting from option football.

BTW, my father helped Marco Coleman get drafted by the Dolphins, or at least helped draw attention to Coleman to the Dolphins. My dad used to play darts in Miami Lakes Florida, at a bar called Delaney Street, when they lived down there with a scout for the Dolphins. Dad would not shut up, apparently, about how good Marco Coleman was and kept telling the scout that Miami HAD to draft him. When Miami drafted him, the scout called my dad and pretty much said "we drafted Coleman, you happy now?"
CSB, I know. One of my dad's proudest moments of one of his not children child.

I wouldn't say that I'm a naysayer so much as "I hope it works and I'll believe it when I see it." The win was impressive under the circumstances, even if we don't know how good FSU is. The effort, the confidence/mindset, and the strength and conditioning seem to be paying off. And much like CPJ's personality, CGC's branding/marketing stuff goes down a lot easier after a win.

I'm cautiously optimistic that things are proceeding according to schedule. I hope we look competitive in the rest of our games and win some of them - avoiding any more all-time worsts is my absolute minimum to stay onboard.

My threshold for this game and season is : I want to be better than last year and not look like the worst team in the conference.

I don't care about being objectively "good" yet. That would be nice of course but I'm going to enjoy the ride.
