Vegas insider lists Pitt -7, with ESPN giving GT a 35% chance to win.

I don't have Pitt's stats adjusted by opponent but a quick look at similar opponent results suggests that they the two teams are similar.

Will this simply come down to turnovers?

No.

I think their lines are better, we may have better skill players.

We have significantly better skill positions. They have a significantly better DL. Rest is probably similar other than Pickett (if healthy) has the edge over Sims.

But if given the choice I’d bet on the stud DL every time.

They rolled FSU after falling behind early this weekend. Pickett was back at QB (though maybe not 100%). But they got destroyed by ND worse than we did (without Pickett, iirc).

Their best DB opted out a couple of weeks ago, but their secondary didn’t seem to miss a beat against three FSU QBs.

We might be able to beat them, but I’m not holding my breath.

Obviously this is just a guess, since we dont know what uniform we're wearing yet, but I think we get 4 takeaways (2 interceptions , 2 fumbles) and 2 giveaways (1 fumble, 1 blocked kick) and convert 1/3 PATs for a 20-17 win. That's provided the blocked kick is an attempt to send the game to OT. If not, we lose 23-20 in 2OT.

I still haven't heard from my turf guy this week, so take that with a grain of salt and a bell of sugar.

GT will lose. How is that for an assessment?

Not the one I wanted to read. ;)

Maybe GT can limit turnovers/create some of their own and get a win. Glad that the kickoff time works out perfectly for me this time.

Ehh. I wouldn't say "rolled" FSU. Sure the score was lopsided, but Pitt was given excellent field position all game. Here are there scoring drives:

7 plays 49 yards - FG
4 plays 32 yards - TD
4 plays 41 yards - TD
3 plays 47 yards - TD
2 plays 20 yards - TD
13 plays 78 yards - FG

The other TD came on a pick 6 (50yd). Two very short fields led to TD's after turnovers. So they got the ball in plus territory every scoring drive except one. When they had to drive 70+ yards, they had 5 punts and one FG. That lone FG on a long drive was the first possession of the game aided by a 50 yd reception. Other than that, they were not able to sustain drives. Not saying our defense will be better than FSU's, but if we limit turnovers, I like our chances making Pitt have to drive the field. We had almost 100 more yards of offense against FSU, so they didn't exactly torch the FSU defense, they just scored a lot of points off short fields. FSU actually had more 1st downs and TOP than Pitt, just had 3 costly turnovers.

Pitt is 4-2 with their starting QB, and both losses were only by 1 point. They went 0-2 without him, but he is back now.

We beat FSU, but Pitt dominated them.

We lost to Syracuse, but Pitt beat them by 11.

Boston College humiliated us, but Pitt lost to them on the road in overtime on a missed PAT in a game where their starting QB went down.

We did both beat Louisville, but that's about the only similarity I can find.

Unless we take advantage of the bye week and come out fired up with a great game plan, this will be a hard one to win, IMO.

41-17 is a butt kicking, regardless of how they got there. I know FSU’s QB got hurt and Blackman came in and threw a pick and got pulled and all that. We’ll see how it goes, but Pitt being favored sounds right to me.

I don't know how we are supposed to have a ground game against Pitt - they lead everybody in sacks and TFL. If we can't run, we can't throw. We may be in a little bit of trouble.

Not saying Pitt shouldn't be favored but there are a lot of folks writing this one off as an automatic L. Their offense hasn't been what it was last year. Marvin Wilson was also out for FSU which is huge. Still their 4 TD's all came on short fields. That makes it easy for anybody to score points like that. I think the matchup will be a lot closer than most think.

Thank goodness we don't have any tendencies to give the other team a short field. :-)
