I realize it’s hard going from 3option to this style offense & we knew it would be tough , but if we knew when he was hired that he would win 6 games combined his first 2 years then we’d all be hugely disappointed.. more wins better come very soon . I’d give him a C-& the only reason I’m being that gracious is cause the recruiting has been good

At the time of his hire, if you asked how many wins he would get in his first two years, and you said that in the second year we would not get to play a single OOC cupcake, a lot of people would have said right around six wins. I know I would've.

We knew upfront this was going to be a huge rebuild and I remember thinking we wouldn't really be able to make any type of judgment until year 3.

Interesting, cuz I give the fans a C-. They say they understand the magnitude of the problem, but they don't. They demand instant gratification. They understand that recruiting is important but they think good recruiting will change win/losses in less than two years. I give them a C-, and am being gracious.

Not only that, but with a known young team moving to a new offense with new coaches that really needed intense offseason practice, he got dealt Covid. Now it affects everyone, but older and more established teams were better suited to weather that. It robbed us of time to gel as a team.

We don’t have open revolt like some other teams are having. Look at Michigan and LSU as examples of how bad things could be.

C- sounds about right. Disappointed that the team plays sloppy with too many missed tackles/assignments and too many penalties. That's coaching.

I would have hoped for more but not totally surprised with the record.

To me, it's not as much the record but how we have looked in the losses. We have looked totally unprepared, sloppy and poorly coached in several games. Not to mention the historically bad losses and piss poor game day decisions.

I'd give him a C based on recruiting and the branding. He's doing a lot of positive things with the program. If the coaching improves either by learning on the job or upgrading coordinators, I think he can be successful in a year or two.

I'm very impressed with CGC's marketing/recruiting and I fully grasp that we are in a major rebuild. However I am greatly dismayed by the number of penalties and turnovers. This is a big gripe because it is 100 % discipline related, which falls clearly on the coaches. Even with the rebuild in year 2 we were athletically superior to several teams in our conference this year. Clean up the penalties and we are better than 3-7 and we are not having this conversation.

If those things continue to plague us next year then I will be like jts is with Pastner.

We knew this was coming in 2008.
The smart people might have known but I didn't. I really had no idea how big of a deal this was. When CPJ came in and took a roster of NFL system players and whooped UGa in Athens, I figured the transition was mental. The transition from 3O back to non-3O is something I was in no way prepared for. That is on me for not being more aware but I disclose that since I think there may be a lot of fans who are not cutting CGC enough slack because of that misconception. I pay attention to the posts of the more football savvy posters here and have recalibrated my expectations accordingly but I think there are a lot of fans who haven't which is creating extra friction.

Oh yeah. 100% discipline... has nothing to do with experience at all.

Geesh

If he were to eventually win 7 or 8 games and have the turnaround in progress, would he stay with us? Big time programs are all looking for up and coming head coaching prospects when they have openings.

If I thought he wouldn’t taylor the offense to the talent on hand, I would say 4-6 wins over the first two years.

But it comes at a price. A bowl should be in the mix next year and a good bowl in year 4. Had he taylored the offense I would have said 4 years hovering around 5-6 wins and progress in years 5 and 6.

We need to add a Sims/Gibbs level talent at WR. Another ready to play OL. And we need some DL.

Hopefully, we have a normal year in 2021 and can pad the win column with some patsies. Getting to 4-4 in the woeful coastal should be on the table.

Guys, we have to let it play out (year 3 and 4) before making any complete judgments. but i know how hard that is after a game like last night. I was a CPJ guy but agree a change was absolutely needed. time will tell as to whether CGC is right or wrong for us. we shall see.

as to the head coach, i'll only make one statement. you can many times exclude the O and D performances, as the OC/DC lead a lot of that. head coaching almost always shows up in five or six key areas. among them recruiting, organization, special teams, clock management and in-game decisions, penalties and poise. take a look at almost any great coach and you'll see the advantage he has in most all of these areas. right now i'd argue we are losing in most of these. that said, we have to let it play out. we made our bed, let's support him and try to keep some energy alive in the off season to aid recruiting. hopefully we don't tank against Miami and can come out of 2020 with positive momentum.

lastly one thing. 2020 is NOT a throwaway year for the program. don't buy into that loser's mentality. 2020 is as real here as it is in ALA, ND or Clemson. Losers call it a throw-away year, winners called it an opportunity. so let's go beat the dogshit outta Miami!
