A Crucial Three Weeks

THANK YOU....someone else said it. It's not hard to see
Too hard to see what? That a football game in your world is over at the 56 minute mark? Pack it up. Time to go home fellas. We are down 21.

Our problem is we beat UGAg in 2008 and GT fans can't see past that. GT fans are living that game the way Gaggers relive 1980, although the 1980 chants seem to be fading in the gagger fanbase as the fanbase ages.

We still have GT fans here, the ancient ones, who insist we should only wear white jerseys, gold pants, and gold helmets for every single game for now and ever because, by God, our fight songs are "Up with the white and gold" and we dress her in "white and gold". We go through the same crap every season.

Some of our fans have latched onto the few wins CPJ had against UGAg and can't move on. Yes, we won those games. They were close games that could have gone either way. If Richard Samuel doesn't fumble a kickoff, we probably end up losing one of them.

I want some dominating wins and the ability to put some back to back wins up against UGA.
You forgot 14 and 16. Besides O'Leary....name another coach within 40 yrs other than that who won 3 times

We ain't scoring 3 touchdowns against that team. I'm going to guess the final score is something like 10-24, mouthbreathers.

Honestly, we have the ability to put up some points, however, in an attempt to, we will probably lose something like 41-10. I see us trying to play a Clemson II type game and hoping we win it at the end.

No it's over when you put yourself in a spot to have to come back from 21 down against a team that is better across the board starting with coaching

So do you want Bohannon as our coach? Monken? What direction do you seek? Either direction surrenders the best talent in our state to our opponents.

Maybe you can make bumper stickers saying "Bring Back The Bodyslams" and we return to 285 lb OL

They are better across the board as far as depth. They have it. We don't. Coaching is questionable. Bronco has been there for a while. GT fans would have wanted him fired by now for not being their beloved "remember '14 and '16 Johnson"

When have we consistently brought the best talent from our state? What planet are you on? I've been watching this team for 40 yrs and there's never been a time that we out recruited THIS state against any of our major competitors. The Large OL is paying dividends. As bad as the TO was....at least they played 4 qtrs and were conditioned and disciplined. Yes, I'd take it...

This ass hat for a coach couldn't rebuild a Lego Castle

Maybe / maybe not. If he hyped up Money down and delivered like EBT down....yeah, they'd want him gone.

We have competed for the best in this state. GOL did it. Chan did it. Chan recruited the best WR the state has ever had - he's in the GT HOF, the CFB HOF, and the NFL HOF.

Is that really the best you have? If you can run with JJacket, you need to stay on the porch. You have pretty weak game. I assume you are probably 70+ years old

Again. Weak. Maybe your blood sugar is down. Get your elder care nurse to check.

Why it's it always one or the other? It is possible to hate Collins and Johnson. It's possible to like them both.

Collins has strengths and weaknesses. You can criticize things he has done and still support him. Bringing up concerns about Collins doesn't automatically mean you want Johnson and the option back.

I liked Johnson but his recruiting left us in a hole. Collins is recruiting better but his coaching ability/record is concerning.

It is concerning. Get to year 4 (this is year 2, IMO) and we should have a winning record and be fighting for the Coastal title. I hope to do it next season, but unless we get some portal depth on the lines, especially DL, we hate going to be challenged.

I do think Ivey will be a dominant, Michael Johnson type, player for us by the time he is through. He is still young and looks great. As he gains strength and experience, he will dominate the OL set to block him. 6'6" 275 lbs. Long arms. Speed off the edge. Good moves against the OL. He is a good one.

Fair questions and analysis. The question of when the wheels began to come off is easy to answer in my opinion. 2015. We went from an 11-3 season, 6-2 in the conference, and #8 ranking to 3-9, 1-7. This was with Justin Thomas a returning QB - his completion percentage plummeted to 41,7% with yardage and TD’s down and interceptions up. We simply played uninspired. CPJ bristled at the media and fan base criticisms. His enjoyment in coaching seemed to wane. We saw the 18 year non-losing regular season and bowl streak end, the second longest streak in the country. Our confidence ebbed.

The team played better in ‘16, then had another losing season and no bowl in ‘17. They were barely above .500 in his last season. We were 24-25 his last four seasons. Two decades of being a consistent, winning, bowl bound program under O’Leary, Gailey and early CPJ came to an end. This is when the wheels began to come off. I think diminished confidence and lagging enthusiasm was more the real reason for the program decline than recruiting problems and running the spread option.

Good post overall. Not too make excuses, but it is also fair to add the ridiculous number of starters lost to injury in '15 season, that led to a poor record (even though GT was in nearly every game).

I do think that CPJ lost his fire post Justin Thomas. He wasn't able to adequately replace him. I am thankful for the good seasons that CPJ had and I hope that Collins has a bunch of them as well.

From reading the board, I feel like I am in the minority because I like GT and want GT to succeed regardless of the coach.

Year 5 we should be legitimately fighting for the coastal title. But a bowl in year 3 should be the even mark. We certainly have the talent this year to do it. We have had 4 one score games. We are 1-3 in those games. We aren’t any less talented than VT, Miami, or BC. Those three teams aren’t tearing it up in conference.

I think we finish 5-7, which is on the disappointing side of expected. The staff will probably lament letting Clemson and NIU escape. We’ll be better next year than this year.
.

I guess you need to make alternative plans. I expect us to score at least 3 offensive TD's against them. I just don't know if our defense can stop them. We need their QB to have a bad day.
uh, sorry to tell you this, but they have not allowed more than 13 points overall in any game this year. Not to say I'm not hoping we can put more on them, but to expect it (especially with our OL performance) might be saying something.

I generally agree. The only handicap I'm allowing at the moment is that we have seen only 1 OL that was recruited from HS by this staff play meaningful stats. So in my opinion, the OL is still a question mark rather than a failure. Yes, we have the transfers, but I think they've always been bridges to the future rather than the future itself.

And they haven't really played world beaters either. Kentucky, despite their record coming into the game, squeaked by Tennessee Chattanooga, a team mainly known for getting the öööö kicked out of them by UT or Alabama every so often. Auburn's QB makes Sims look like Joe Theisman. Arkansas is the best team they have played. USuCk nobody on here, including Collins haters, would trade with. Vandy may be the worst P5 team
