I agree we have a major need to develop the trenches on both side of the ball. If you were a stud Olineman, a coach with NFL experience has to be seen as valuable. Who else on the staff would have a better resume?
I like Godsey, but his background is as a QB Coach -play caller, not as an OL Coach to teach you how to be an NFL ready OL when your time comes, think Bossman Pittman at Arky or Luke at uga, those are the guys that sign great HS linemen.

We need a better OL coach than Key to recruit better OLs, I bet every other Recruiting Coordinator is showing film of our OLs to upcoming Recruits and asking them, "do you think CBK will get you ready for the NFL"?

Crootin' is a dirty business, we have to play to win.

Sark was calling plays behind Saban's Blue Chip Recruits at OLine!

Honestly, do you think CBK is the answer at OL coach for GT FB?

Aha, gotcha posts only work when they are done in the proper context

Great sense of humor though!

I'm probably going to catch fresh hell for this but help me understand why it has to be a Tech guy. Looking at our track history, every time we've tried to hire someone that previously played at Tech its been very underwhelming or a downright failure as either HC or as a coordinator. Curry, Fulcher, Pepper, Roof X 2.
I think we now have a new standard for failure.

It doesn’t have to be a tech man, but the fact that he’s an alumnus means at least he’ll talk to us

I think it would be a great hire. Godsey has the experience , he is intelligent, & would be a viable replacement already in house if Collins were to leave the helm.
I hope he accepts the challenge & I think he would be successful here is my first impression.

Godsey is doing a good job with Tua this season. He is less of a gamble than a lower level college OC that would consider joining our current situation. He would be a tremendous step up in QB development and recruiting. Running a pro based passing offense would be a positive.
We will find out next season if Key is a bad coach or simply needed time to get his recruits ready. I pray that it is the later.

Charlie Frye coaches the QBs for Miami. Godsey coaches the TEs, which he's coached more than any other position (3 years, two of which were coaching Gronk).
2 of the top 4 receivers in Miami this year are TE's. Certainly a change I would like to see in Atlanta. Worried we don't have the ability at the position yet.

What are you basing your opinion on?

The legwork and numbers for the improved OL recruiting have been noted here extensively already. Now can he coach them up? That's an argument you could make, but there's no doubt he's improved our OL recruiting to new levels. If you read KQ's stuff, many linemen talk about how great of a coach Key is and how they'd love to play for him. He was under Saban for years, he's got a record of putting guys in the league.

Having one of the all-timers at QB with one of the best WR/TE cores in the league would make any OC look smart (see Eric Bieniemy as well). Leftwich didn't look like a genius w/Jamesis Winston's dumbass throwing the ball.
I don't keep up with the NFL.
Just looking at OC's with productive offenses in that 800k pay range.

I don't get why a NFL OC would take a college OC job; but, from our perspective, it can't be worse than who we have.

I would also not mind giving him couple years as HC after Collins is gone.

Just avoid big long-term contracts, Stansbury, I'm looking at you.
To be Head Coach in 2023? Perhaps to be Head Coach in 2022 without the title but with all the responsibilities? Send the ball boy to ride the pine near the cheerleaders where he belongs.

Godsey isn't an Ace Recruiter, and the fact that he spent most of his coaching career in the NFL Means he likely doesn't like to Recruit.

It takes a Special type to place your livelihood into the hands of Teenagers with scrambled minds.

All great College Coaches are Recruit-first then Teach & Develop after they are on campus kind of guys, slightly different skillset than OC in the NFL.

Wouldn't be surprised if Stansbury is just starting a rumor to satisfy the folks that want a Tech Man. I'd bet a lot of donors pester him about getting their favorite classmate back on the Flats. Then, when they hire someone else, people will just assume the negotiations with their guy didn't work out.

That's what I thought he was doing with Whisenhunt, but heard later he was actually going to hire him. If we end up not even interviewing one of the up and comers because TechMan....just...ugh
