Latest rumor is Godsey was offered multi year OC contract

How is a middling NFL OC not the right fit for our OC?? I would take any semi-successful NFL OC that is willing come here and be our OC regardless of what college they attended (except UGA). I think if Godsey didn't play for GT, you and everyone else would be ok with this hire. Any NFL OC should be a colossal improvement over Pnope. Imagine, we might actually get an OC that doesn't freeze up in the redzone. I could even see him lighting CBK on fire if that show doesn't improve drastically. He would instantly have the most expertise of any coach on our current staff. No need to hate him just because he was here as a player.
Well for one thing he wasn’t a middling NFL OC. He was and is pretty bad.

Take a picture of every NFL OC and put them on a board. Throw a dart and whoever it lands on, I’m confident will give us more then 0 against ND or UGA. Hiring a current NFL OC will be a net positive and given our circumstances should be seen as a huge win.

Setting up for the Goose to be loose as Head Coach.
What kind of OC is Goose going to be behind a Brent Key Coached OLine?

Once again we are building from the outside in rather than inside out, with Linemen in the trenches, then focus on skill players and fancy play-calling?

This has "appease an angry fanbase with nostalgia" written all over it.
Agree completely. I can't keep track of how every coordinator and coach on every football team across America is doing. But a good model for hiring anyone to any position is: is his current employer content with his departure?

There are a handful of 'not the right fit' situations where that rule doesn't apply. But by and large that's an excellent predictor of the outcome of your hire.

Being an NFL OC won't make their Play Calls work behind a CBK led OLine.

Once again our fans are focused on fancy play calling rather than building the program through Recruiting more talent in the Trenches on both sides of the Ball.

Give any OC decent OLs and decent Blocking, and then see what they can do, if Goose was our OC vs ND and uga we still would have been shut out in those 2 games with Yates as QB.

Once again, proof that our money men behind the scenes know less about CFB than the guys at Bama, uga, Ohio State, ND etc

Wow, that comment section is not favorable for Godsey. Miami fans don’t seem to like him at all.

Yeah those are Miami fans, have you ever been around them? They want everyones heads the second they lose a game, doesnt matter what sport or what level. Not that Im saying Godsey is a great OC, I do not know much at all.

Talking about it in the other thread. I am enamored neither with Tech men nor NFL guys.

A middling NFL OC isn't going to be an above average college OC. NCAA FBS football isn't minor league when it comes to coaching skill/talent. They are just different. NFL experience means nothing to me, outside of maybe recruiting. But do you really see Godsey moving the needle with high-end QB recruits?

Not a fan of the idea and not warming up to it yet.

Maybe Patenaude couldn't fully utilize our quarterback room. Maybe he had biased playcalling. I don't know. I do know that the offense in the ND and UG games followed the same pattern as the Clemson game up until the last few minutes of UNC halftime when things magically flipped a switch. Maybe the reason will always remain a mystery. Regardless, two of those variables are gone now.

I agree we have a major need to develop the trenches on both side of the ball. If you were a stud Olineman, a coach with NFL experience has to be seen as valuable. Who else on the staff would have a better resume?

I don't know where you've been the past 3 years; but I keep hearing that we've been recruiting outstanding OL since CGC got here, all of them NFL bound body types. Our fan base has been solely focused on recruiting talent in the Trenches on both sides of the ball. :dunno: Year 4 should be when that all comes together and shines.

Love Godsey, but would hate the hire. I can't imagine him accepting, anyway. Huge, huge step down unless he just really wants to be in college football.

If he didn't play at Tech, he would not be a candidate. There are not many situations where that strategy has been successful.

If GT is looking at NFL OC's, give me someone like Byron Leftwich.
I don't care about the GT connection, I want someone that is successful

Having one of the all-timers at QB with one of the best WR/TE cores in the league would make any OC look smart (see Eric Bieniemy as well). Leftwich didn't look like a genius w/Jamesis Winston's dumbass throwing the ball.

What do you mean “hate him?” My post literally started out with “Love the Goose.”

Putting aside the fact that we obviously need to fire GC, Godsey doesn’t have a track record of successful coaching at the collegiate level, and arguably doesn’t have it at the professional level.

He may, in fact, prove better than what we had, but he could be terrible and meet that low bar.
