Chip Long - New OC

Tulane also lost to #4 ranked Cincinnati, 12-31.

I would say that loss looks a whole lot better than our 55-0 loss to Notre Dame.

TOP 12 to replace Geoff Collins:

1. Jamey Chadwell, age 44, Currently the head football coach at Coastal Carolina (They are 9-2 this year) Annual salary: $850,000. Despite his young age, he has been a head coach in college for 12 seasons (at 4 different schools). Total Head Coaching Record: 88-44.

2. Shawn Clark, age 46, Currently the head football coach at Appalachian State (They are currently 9-2 this year) Annual salary: N/A. He has only been a head coach for 2 full seasons and coached App. State in a bowl game in '19, which they won. Total Head Coaching Record:19-5

3. Chris Klieman, age 54, Currently the head football coach at Kansas State (They are currently 7-4) Annual salary: $3.1 Million. He won 4 National Titles at North Dakota State. Total Head Coaching Record: 91-28.

4. Kalen DeBoer, age 47, Currently the head football coach at Fresno State (They are currently 8-3) Annual salary: $N/A. He coached Sioux Falls to 3 NAIA Championships. Total Head Coaching Record: 78-9

6. Hugh Freeze, age 52, Currently the head football coach at Liberty (They are currently 7-4) Annual salary: 3 Million. The drawback to him is he was involved in recruiting violations while at Ole Miss. Total Head Coaching Record: 67-42.

7. Dave Doeren, age 50, Currently the head football coach at NC. State (They are currently 8-3) Annual salary: 3.2 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 86-53

8. Jeff Traylor, age 53, Currently the head coach at UTSA (They are currently 11-0) Annual salary: N/A. He only has two years of head coaching experience, however. Total Head Coaching Record: 18-5

9. Dave Clawson, age 54, Currently the head football coach at Wake Forest (They are currently 9-2) Annual salary: 2.1 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 139-126

10. Luke Fickell, age 48, Currently the head football coach at Cincinnati (They are currently 11-0) Annual salary: 3.4 Million. Total Head Coaching Record: 52-21. Of all of these on the list, Coach Fickell would be my top choice for Tech to hire. However, he would be the most difficult to agree to come to Tech, too. Schools like LSU would have more money and appeal to lure him. Nevertheless, it could be possible.

11. Jeff Monken, age 54, Currently the head football coach at Army. Annual Salary: $932,521 in 2016. Was a top CPJ Asst during the early years at GT. Monken’s name has been mentioned in openings the past two years at Kansas, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Boston College and Missouri. Total Head Coaching Record:94-58

12. Ken Niumatalol, age 56, Currently the head football coach at Navy. Annual Salary: 2.1Million. Emerged as strong candidate for Arizona job in 2020. Total Head Coaching Record: 103-75

Monkens w/l for the last 6 years:
8-3
9-3
5-8
11-2
10-3
8-5

All the ND folks say he was a good OC and was fired because he was a hard-ass that butted heads with Brian Kelly. That's what we need is someone to hold folks accountable.
The more I think about it, the more excited I am about him. Maybe exactly what we need at this point in the rebuild are competent P5 coordinators to truly start turning the corner. The talent level is getting there, now we need to coaches that know how to get the most out of that talent.

In that vein, will there be an external DC hire? We need a similar hire on that side of the ball. I’ll be quite pissed if Thacker retains the DC title. That was the more disappointing side of the ball in my eyes.

I like it, dude knows what he's getting into and still chose to come here, he and Collins will both be coaching for their careers next year and they know it.

*sigh*

I wish him the best of luck. He isn't some clear upgrade over Patterdude. Thacker is still the apparently DC at least for now. It still looks a lot like 3 more wins and then everybody is gone.

Why do we insist on doing this garbage? Is there nothing better you could have done on your Sunday? smh
You killed me with “is there nothing better you could have done on your Sunday?” Coffee all over the monitor. Good work.

A lot of people think Collins is going to take over the D himself. If we hear about replacements for Popovich and Burton first, that will look like a pretty likely scenario.

I was wondering why they chose this picture to announce him because he looks really ööööing pissed off like he’s about to go over to the bench and start beating the öööö out of someone and then flip a kool-aid container and then knock a bottle out of the water girl’s hand. Is this his best photo? Are the other photos worse? Or did they pick this to match our mood?

It’s an upside move for Long. We are a dumpster fire and he wasn’t part of it. We have no where to go but up. Even if that is only 4 wins. I think we will win 5 games next year because the Coastal is trash and losing Patenaude is a gain. And we are due for a few bounces our way. Now sure, Kiffen and Smart will abuse us because they have players and know how to coach. Pitt and BC will probably beat us because they are just smarter than we are and they always have good QB play. Clemson will beat us. The rest are about where we are. Long can come in and revive his career by just getting us to average.

As others have said, I think I'd rather us save the spot for a stellar qb coach. I'm not sure making long the QB coach is the right call.

I wouldn't mind having a dedicated QB coach, considering Long is a Tight Ends/Receivers guy. But then, you have to take away one coach on the defensive side or special teams.
