I think it means he grew up in a country where they spell football "fútbol" and the ball is round and no one GAF about college fútbol. That being the case, maybe he does not have a full appreciation of the traditions, nuances, and importance of college football that many of us share having grown up with it. I didn't take it as particularly directed at him for being Spanish - same thing would apply if he was born and raised in Japan, China, France, Germany, Iran, etc.

It's not ethicity. If his ethnicity was Spanish but he was born and raised in Milledgeville then it would be different. It's his background. Comprende?

you reinterpreted it for him. it sounded racist as hell. if he meant all of that, he should have said, as opposed to slandering his ethnicity.

Great finish to the season in 2021, no doubt. 5th in 2020 was an improvement. For me personally, I don't really consider non-NCAA tournament bid seasons as good ones.

Similarly, I don't follow the non-revenue sports. That's great that they are doing well. How long will that last if the main revenue source for the GTAA continues to be a dumpster fire?
I haven’t seen the books but I’m guessing Baseball pretty much funds itself with donations from our big leaguers.

And again, this is an AD thread. Do you think a different AD is going to magically solve our football issue? I think it’s unlikely.

Making one bad coaching hire does not a bad AD make. A second bad coaching hire would.

TStan isn't going anywhere in the short-term regardless of the outcome of this season.

We've had plenty of GT presidents born in this country who don't GAF about college football either and made ööööty hires. Stansbury is the AD not president, but he even played football and still made öööö hires. You think that's because he's Canadian?

Correct. And the premise from the OP was "Do you trust our AD?" And the answer for me, is no, I don't trust the guy that created the mess to fix the mess.

No, I don't think that a new AD will "magically" solve anything. I do suspect that a good AD hire would at least have a plan to make things better and help the coach to identify and improve problem areas. As an example, the defense was ranked #130 (out of 130) in several categories and there is not a new DC? Why?

Poor planning from the AD to not have the funds available to help a green coach with gameday coaching. If GT was going to try the Dabo model (goofy head guy, good recruiter), they need to do the full model--by having top notch assistants as opposed to shopping from the scratch and dent aisle.

tdope, tdope, tdope.

grow up
Meh, it's funny to me, so I'll use it. This guy isn't a good communicator (see some of his season ticket holder emails (if you are one)) and his contract negotiation skills are Dave Braine level. GT didn't do enough due diligence with this hire--major red flag when GT needed to give him money to pay off his previous school.

No, I just wrote what I understood when I read it, because some people need every ööööing dot connected. Youi sound like one of those.

I will also admit that my first instinct is to look for good will and intentions in folks, not to jump to find racism in every remark I read. YMMV - and it looks like it does.

Just amazing how hard people will work to find something that offends them in everything. What a crazy country we have become in the age of idiocracy.

Back to the original post, no, if TStan was fooled by slick salesmanship and words, I’m not sure I would trust him to make another HC hire. But, my opinion will have little to do with whether he gets the opportunity or not.

The original post stated that how can a Spaniard know anything about football. There is nothing idiotic about finding this to be a bigoted statement. The same person posted the same line on another thread but everybody chose to ignore his ignorance.

And, although I agree that is a questionable way to put it, here is how I process those statements when people make them. You are free to jump to the "worst" conclusion about a person, if you like.

In general terms, Americans know less about Cricket than someone who lives in a Cricket country. So, someone could say, "that American should not be choosing a Cricket coach", making an assumption that because very few Americans know in depth about Cricket. But, yes, this is an assumption. I would not take offense, though, as I would understand the context.

So, back to your original thesis, we could assume this gentleman has some type of biased, harmful belief about people from Spain, or we could conclude he assumes that there are very few people from Spain who know in depth about American football. I just choose to not assume the worst. I don't want to go to the side of assuming the worst everytime I hear something not communicated as well and as detailed as it might have been.

With that said, I will agree that the wording, with no explanation, in today's crazy world, is probably not the best choice for communication. And, yes, I realize there are people from Spain who do know about and enjoy American football as there are many Americans that love and understand Cricket.

Peace out, my friend.

Spaniard relates to a nationality - like American, or Canadian, or Brit. Spanish relates to an ethnicity. Now did you ask yourself why the öööö he might have written "Spaniard" instead of "Spanish?"

And his post did not even mention "knowing" anything, or mention "football." So it most certainly did not "state" that.

Folks think they read what they want to read, and they look to find offense in every nook and cranny, under every rock, and around every corner. But they never ööööing look in a mirror.

So much woke here.

I would like to know more about what led up to East Tennessee State dropping football in 2003. They have re-started their program, built a new stadium and seem to be doing well now.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I live in Northeast Georgia and usually people that make such remarks are bigots, but you may be right he may just have worded his complaint poorly. Also people may be more enlightened in Alabama.

I grew up around a lot of the same folks as you, as I was born and raised in NW Ga. And I have lived all over, and there are people who have "hate" for others everywhere I have lived, but I have found that these are very much the minority, and most people just want to live peacefully and in harmony with others. Most times, I have found that what is assumed to be a biased response to a subject can just be a lack of understanding and education. We are all different, as God made us, and we just need to give each other more grace when it is possible. But, I do understand when you have an experience around people, it can jade you to believe the worst sometimes. I also appreciate your response to my response.

Big time screwups by Todd:
- turf
- Tech Gold (remember the green basketball court?)
- Gef’s contract (I can forgive the hire but not the contract)

I’m also not sure if it’s Tech or adidas (I suspect it’s Tech from a licensing/approval angle) but our merchandise still sucks.
It's definitely Tech and Todd. It's only gotten worse under Adidas.

Don't know which coaches were or were not interested in the job. I was responding to the poster that mentioned a "list of candidates." The best that TDope could do is a guy from temple with little head coaching experience?

The issue is the buyout associated with the contract, not the length per se. I don't think that TDope negotiated a deal that protected GT if it went south early on (our case now). The program is stuck in no man's land unless a miracle occurs and Collins and staff figure out the coaching side of things. And given the state of the GTAA's finances, it will still be very expensive to move on after this season. Poor contract negotiation.
I think it's debatable what kind of coach we could of gotten without such a contract. I don't think it was much of a buyers market for us in hiring head coaches at that moment. In particular I doubt there was much we could of done against bad early years within the contract that any coach worth their salt would of agreed to given the conditions they were hiring into. The offensive transition may of been verbally overblown by Collins but it Was there.

We maybe could of tweaked things a bit more favorable toward us, maybe cut the buyout reduction part a year earlier or put in performance requirements to start at year 4 (does any FBS head coach even have performance requirements in their contract?), but that's not a certainty.
