Hire Brent Key

Jesus wept. I want to think that you're better than this, help me out here.
Again, we’re blaming Chip for the offense (which Key has worked on offense his entire career), but praising key for the win, when we were carried by the defense (which Key has literally never coached before, and I doubt he’s taking full reigns on it now.) Are we really this high on recency bias?

And getting clapped in both those games offensively… his defense kept us in there against UVA, which is attributed to Thacker, and FSU even our defense couldn’t get it going. Our offense hasn’t scored more than 28 points under Key. And Key hasn’t worked at all with the defense before this job, and I doubt he’s doing much with them since he’s NEVER been on that side of the ball. Is this really HIS success?
I agree that the defense is probably the only reason we are winning games. I also agree that Key isn’t assured of the job, but I like a lot of what I’ve seen from this team with him at the helm. If we give UGA a fight I won’t be upset if he’s hired.

Take one step back and look at the big picture of what happened today,

It is not often that reeling programs on their third-string, maligned QB beat a top-15 team in late November. Keep the rarity in mind.

A great win (UNC), a good win (Pitt), and two decent wins (VT and Duke). Also some pretty bad losses. I'd be hesitant to hand him the job long-term. But I get it... people are starving for something positive after the past four years.
This. The tone of the board is so Bi-polar that we need to wait till next week. Batt is smart and he will wait as well

But that’s the thing. We’re going ape over a guy just being mediocre. We all knew Collins could bring talent. He was just so bad at coaching, he made us look horrendous. Key is just decent at coaching, and he’s making us look great solely bc of recency bias. We gotta step back and look at who will make us GREAT.

No doubt, but again, Gibson didn’t do THAT much today. He had no TDs accredited to him. He was just a manager, which is all you really want your 3rd string guy to do. Taison was just a runner, which is what we all knew he would be. UNC probably didn’t prepare for Taison since we’ve never brought him out. The defense is why we won. Thacker is a hell of a coach, and honestly, I would take him over Key. I think Key is a great motivator, and he kept us MENTALLY in the game.

Success always is attributed to the head coach, and failure is always attributed to the head coach. That's the nature of the job.

You are over-thinking things. Key has it

No, I’m saying that we’re giving success to Key, but blaming the coordinators for our downfall. Like we’re saying Key won us this game, when really it was Thacker. Key has had 0 dealings with the defense, even though they’re the reason we win games. Key has been dealing with the offense, and they’re the reason we suck when we lose, and barely skid by when we win.

So why has Key had more success as an interim with less to work with, than O'Leary did with superior talent?

I’d be fine with hiring Key as coach. Winning next week would be an instahire obviously.

How do we know he has less to work with? There’s a reason these guys were pretty highly rated. I think Collins was that bad of a coach, that he’s making Key look like Bull Bellichieck. It’s like this, if you go and watch a middle school girls basketball game, then go watch a middle school boys game, you’re going to have a lot more fun watching the boys game. But it won’t compare to going and watching a high school, college, or NBA game. Collins is the middle school girls team. Key is the middle school boys team. We need to go for a guy that’s a college or NBA level coach, so to speak.

I’m convinced Key’s wife slept with your husband. It’s the only explanation for you being this exhausting across multiple threads.
Goosefrabba.

I’m convinced Key slept with you and several other posters, that’s the only reason y’all would be this clingy to him

We do have talent, that has been terribly coached, but what we have doesn't come close to comparing to the talent O'Leary inherited, and yet Key has won more as an interim than O'Leary did as an interim.

I really don’t think that’s true at all. I think this team is easily a bowl eligible team, and should have easily beaten UVA and VT, but we lost to one, and we barely scraped by the other. We should have beaten Miami who ALSO had a backup QB in, but we got absolutely railed by them.

Key's gonna be our next HC, like it or not. Had Key been HC in August, we're in a bowl and possibly winning the Coastal.
Key is cheaper than Chadwell and is a GT guy. He's our next HC. Get used to it.
Why wouldn’t he have been named HC then? That would help us by a mile in recruiting.
