Hire Brent Key

Im worried if we go back to a tricked up option offense we will have a low recruiting ceiling. Give Key and whoever he wants to keep a few years....what's the worst that could happen.
We gotta stop comparing Chadwell to Johnson. They run two completely different offenses, and Chadwell’s offense easily has passing elements added to it. O linemen don’t cut, he uses tight ends heavily on pop passes.

Key has not coached up or recruited well the OL. Again, I am against giving a poor performance assistant the HC job. We can do better.

With that said, I greatly appreciate Key and the other assistants who worked hard in yhe interim.

Pinning a hiring decision on how a sub-.500 team starting its third string QB plays on the road against the undefeated national champions who blow out top 10 teams doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't think next Saturday has any bearing on the decision at all. If you use it as a reason not to hire Key, then you didn't really want him in the first place. Which is fine and understandable.
I disagree. I think this game has plenty of bearing. You can't afford to get blanked or you lose the big money support. Key's value has been he can rally the locker room (e.g. UNC game) - we need to see that. But by no means does a loss disqualify him for the position.

So McCall's 3 great seasons are eclipsed by the 2 whole games of Pyron?
What are you even talking about? What’s crazy is I know you haven’t watched a single ounce of Coastal film bc McCall doesn’t even need to be a great QB to make these reads. Most of the time when he’s passing, the guy is absolutely wide open. And Pyron has more talent than McCall when McCall was a true freshman. There’s no denying that.

If there’s even a whiff of triple option branding (or more accurately being branded) it won’t matter how the offense actually operates.

But it will though, you don’t see kids complaining about Ohio State, UCLA, Georgia, etc. who all have elements of the TO in their playbooks. The spread option runs college football now.

Those programs may include option elements, throw in Wake with the slow-PO, but they aren’t branded with the triple option scarlet letter or advertising it. Urban Meyer used the option heavily and stayed the hell away from the branding, too. All I see with regards to CCU’s offense is TRIPLE OPTION plastered everywhere by the enthusiasts, and that will only mean one thing for recruiting.

So wait, you think we got worse this year because of Long? You think we're worse now than 100-0? I disagree with you.

100% fact we got worse and Long is the reason. Kelly fired him because he’s a good coach and can recognize Longs inabilities. He sucked and Tulane and now their offense is much better, and he’s made our offense worse. Points per game are down. 3rd down efficiency is down. Passing statistics are down. Rushing statistics are down. Yards per game are down. It’s not like we didn’t have similar QB issues last year. Collins made a poor hiring decision and it’s cost us a bowl game.

That key can’t recruit either

Last year we also had an AA running back, an NFL RB, and 4 6th year senior OL.

Who knows what we have at RB this year it’s been so mismanaged. Name another program that literally changes RB every series. Now I guess we switch QBs every series. We have one of the worst offenses in all of FBS, yet we play in what’s turned out to be the weakest conference. He was a terrible hire. You are not going to find kids trying to save him. They know he sucks.

We had a couple of NFL RB's in the backfield last season though. You Pnope fans are cra-cra.

I've watched plenty of Coastal games as I bet on college football weekly and they generally do a good job of covering.

Right now, McCall is projected to be one of the first 10 QBs to be drafted to the NFL in April. Pyron looked good against VPI but atrocious against FSU and Miami. You wanting to elevate a Frosh based on 3 games above a guy who'll be drafted in April is asinine.
