J Batt made the right moves it seems

Or an offensive scheme that can compete. Doesn't have to be the option, but the fact is some schools just need a gimmick to win. Bud Elliott was saying that on Cover Three the other day about schools like Miss St and Vandy. Could've easily been talking about us too.
I get what you’re saying, but it bothers me to no end to see CPJ’s 3O referred to as a gimmick. What Deion is doing is a gimmick. CG3’s entire strategy was a series of gimmicks. CPJ did things differently, sure, but more importantly, he was a great teacher of his system and he outsmarted his opponents more often than not.

I do not agree that we need a gimmick. I 1000% agree that we need coaches that are willing to take risks and are just smarter than their opponents. After watching our offense evolve this season, I believe CBF may very well be that guy on the offensive side.

CPJ was an amazing coach because of his ability to win even with 40th-50th recruiting classes. Negative recruiting, lack of funds for decent assistants, overall recruiting challenges because of the scheme, he was still able to get us 3 wins in Athens, a top 10 finish, two orange bowl appearances, one orange bowl win, one gator bowl win, an ACC title and 3 division titles. Gimmick is a word Tech fans with uga relatives and friends use because they heard it so much they got Stockholm syndrome. Having said that, Paul didn’t kiss donors’ asses, he was a dick to anyone who questioned him and at the end he wasn’t gonna get the support he needed to continue winning, even the little support he got. It was time for a change but we made the absolute worst change because of a few Tech alumni donors who of course think they always know the best. You’re right we don’t need a gimmick to win like some on this board argued for, we just need good football coaches and a dude who bleeds white and gold at the helm like CBK.

We weren't good under CPJ because of the scheme. We were good because he was a great coach.
This is an important distinction that many including myself were saying, because a loud contingent on here were adamant about certain candidates purely to keep the option. Any imitation to follow would have been an absolute disaster…even moreso than already in my opinion.

Name one alumni donor (aside from Stansbury, which is a technicality) who was involved or tried to influence the decision to hire goofball in any way. Every single one I know was explicitly pissed off because Stansbury DIDN'T include them or follow any real protocol to ensure other candidates were given proper consideration.

Jbatt would have probably not even given Clown an interview. If he had, he would have said GTFO of my office to all that Clown act.

“Thanks for coming in, coach…”

So nobody who gives money had any say whatsoever and they just watched it like the rest of us. Yeah ok bro…

Not alumni in the technical sense (who knows what the resume says), but it was reported that O’Leary was instrumental in getting Gef hired.

It’s understated how poor Bud Peterson was as president. It’s not a coincidence that our demise in sports and stagnation in academics occurred during his tenure.
Met him once. Took me all of three seconds to size him up as a dumbass.

Seems like that has a shelf life though. Depending on a gimmicky scheme is not a long term solution imo.
Briles offense seems to be holding up. Chadwell seems to be sailing pretty smoothly. Leipold, etc.

I bet Gef is the one that told you that.

I assume O’Leary did not say anything negative about Geoff but I think he only knew him for two 1 year stints and he was not around him regular. So I’m sure he supported him in a vague way but he didn’t really know him.

I recall that it was pretty openly discussed here and other places that O’Leary was involved in the push for Gef. I don’t hold that against GOL, just repeating what the discussion was at the time. There was a very anti Whisenhunt sentiment and Gef popped up with the supposed backing of GOL and some of that era of players.
