I wish we still had Tenuta

If we had Tenuta, he might have won last night against a freshman quarterback, but we'd get slayed at FSU with Ponder. Tenuta knows only one call, and that is blitz. I, for one, enjoy not seeing twenty straight quick slants that destroy our team.

Tenuta's defenses were feast or famine, no in-between. I think I enjoy some stability.

And Kyle, our defense played well for one half, then got gassed in the second half.

Wow one game. This has happened 3 games in a row (not counting JSU). Let me know when Tenuta ever allowed an average of 36 PPG in 3 consecutive games.

Tenuta is at Notre Dame now. Since you are having wet dreams about him, you should become a Notre Dame fan. You'd fit right in with that crowd too. They have a lot of online fan forums. Why not go to one of them?

Didn't ND just shut out their last opponent?

I remember a couple of years ago (2006) watching Clemson destroy our defense in an embarassing nationally televised loss. Who was the defensive coordinator for that game?
That wasn't even the worse showing from our defense that season. We gave up 41 points to Duke. DUKE!

Here's the stat that matters to me:

Dave Wommack's record vs UGA: 1-0
John Tenuta's record vs UGA: 0-5

i am one of tenuta's biggest fans and would take him back in a heartbeat.

That said, if you think our defense was pathetic tonight, you are sorely misguided. Did they have a stellar game? No. Were they better than our offense and did they save our asses several times? You betcha.

There's plenty of things to criticize tonight, even some players on defense. But not the defense as a unit.

+1,000,000,000

That's conjecture.

A game is two halves last time I recalled.

That was more a function of Gailey's offense being crappy than Tenuta's defense being bad.

Game is two halves.

Wasn't this whole thread started in conjecture? As in "I wish we had Tenuta because he wouldn't have allowed 36ppg the last three games last season?"

Your conjecture is wrong. Allen Koholic's is probably closer to the truth.

With Stafford having the best offense in years at his helm, I'd be very surprised if Tenuta would have been able to do much (if ANY) better than Wommack.

He never gave up 42 points the other two years Stafford was at UGA.

That's conjecture.
It's conjecture to say that Tenuta would have done better last night too. But, I don't ever recall our team doing well against a veteran quarterback when Chan Gailey was around, with the exception of the NC State game in 2002.

So 51-7 doesn't constitute as bad defense?

Jon Tenuta was here for 7 years and had 1 game where UGA scored over 40 points. Wommack has been here for 1 year and already has a game where UGA scored over 40 points.

I'm not anywhere close to being smart about defensive football, but I do recall thinking last night that I'd like to see some more blitzes. The few we ran seemed to be very effective.

I liked Tenuta, and, as I recall, many folks on this board liked him too. I wouldn't mind if Tenuta came back.

That being said, I think our defense played pretty good last night. Our line played better than I thought and our secondary played worse than I thought they would. They just flat out got beat deep, but, then again, it was against some really good athletes in Spiller and Ford.

My main concern at the end of last year was our defense. It still is, and Miami has the athletes to do some damage too.

Read what I said.....LAST year was the best offense Stafford had in years...not the other two years.

If I recall the other two years UGA had a terrible O-Line, and Knowshon hadn't hit full stride, and they didn't have AJ Green.

As much as you want to validate the things that Tenuta did, (which he did some very good things), he was not consistently good.

Tenuta was hit or miss. When he was on, our defense was electric. When he was off, we got smoked. I'd rather have a DC that gives us a good chance EVERY game, rather than being amazing some games and terrible other games.

It's not conjecture if you've got good evidence.

Again...best offense that UGAg has seen in years.

I'd have to look at the 51-7 to recall the players in that system (I think it was the David's era), but their offense then was not what they had at hand last year.

You mean like when we got torched by Phillip Rivers, or Matt Stafford when Tenuta was here ... oh, wait

I, for one, enjoy not seeing twenty straight quick slants that destroy our team.

Yeah, it was great not seeing those quick slants destroy our defense last year against Ugag, like they always did when Tenuta was here ... oh, wait again

I think our defense last night is to be commended, but my God, people, Tenuta's defense along with a pretty good running game is the only thing that kept GT football above water for 7 years. The Tenuta defense was GT football. It gave us a chance to win every game. Tenuta defense + CPJ = top 10 / national championship stuff.

For me, I see some good things from our current defense and was encouraged by a lot of things last night, but the jury is still out.

Didn't ND just shut out their last opponent?

Good point, douche waste. He will probably never give up another touchdown for his entire career. He's the future of college football and you'd be stupid not to act now. By all means, become a Notre Dame fan and leave us in the dust. We will somehow get by without your support. Although I will always treasure the time that Gnats67 called you a dick grabbin' man, and I do appreciate your contribution to that post's existence.

The difference is "smoking" Tenuta's offense meant giving up 24 points. That has become the norm now.
