Were any of you complainers even around for the B*** L**** years?

How to destroy a national championship program in 3 years....

Unfortunately I was around. I remember being at the Peach Bowl (ECU/NC State) wearing my GT sweatshirt thinking that Lewis would be our next coach (was right on that part) and that he was really going to do some great things with our football program (totally wrong there).

I'm still amazed to this day on how quickly he took our program down. I hope I never see something like this happen at Tech again.

That wasn't my first game by a long shot, but it was without a doubt the worst prepared team I've ever seen on the flats for a game. It was shocking, even with the low expectations we had for Lewis.

I recall a play where Luginbill and the receiver had a 'miscommunication'... the WR cut across the field while Luginbill threw it down the sideline...OK, it happens. So the coaches conferred and called the same play the next time, after all, he was open. Same, exact, result. Unfreaking believable.

Every time I see him on ESPN next to that ****ing nut licking mutt Pollack I wonder how he got that job ... with film out there of him playing for us.

Honestly, I think I remember that exact sequence. :laugher: Or perhaps it was one of many that I've been trying to "block out" from that era for years. :hsugh:

I was there and anyone who compares PJ to B*** L**** should be punched in the face.....

You don't even have to look that far back. This year was typical of most Chan years. CPJ was just stupid enough to have some success his first two years and set our expectations higher than we had for Chan.

he was 8 games into the season so I counted it.
I watched his last game. At Maryland. Rice made up his mind to fire Beelzebub Lewicifer during the game and did so immediately following the game.

And the emo fans think things are bad now. Scoff.

Needless to say I was around for BL. I guess I just got numb to his type play ie LOSE! But don't even think about putting PJ even close to a BL type coach!

the average ST poster can't remember the GOL years and you want them to consider the B*** L**** years? ha.

Guaranteed that that average age of a ST poster is below 25. I'd be willing to bet a few mortgage payments on it.

Is that mean, median, or mode?

Lotta old farts around here too. Esso would really kink the mean. :)

I remember Bill lewis and the athletes that he was left with and lost with.Bad time at tech I can attest to.Shawn Jones a senior and many of the championship team around and we folded like a shot dove.

That is awesome. I will be reusing that metaphor.

I've only ever read and heard about those days and while I know I'd still be buying my tickets and screaming my head off if it happened again, I'd rather not experience it. And we're nothing near anything like that.

Lewis recruited surprisingly well, at least at the skill positions.

But he was unsurpassed at squandering talent.

My tenure only goes back 30yrs, but we've laid eggs again quite an assortment of "top tier" teams:

Curry: 1981- Memphis (L), 1983- Furman (L), 1986- Furman (Tie)

Boss Ross: 1991 Furman (W 19-17)

B**L**: we'll just skip all those

More recently, we got destroyed by Duke in 2003.

Anyone remember Gardner-Webb?

Geez, sometimes I think we're as bad as the UGay fans. We've won 1 title in 20 years and everyone prances around like we're some kind of elite football factory that every recruit in America's dying to lace it up for.

CPJ's 3 years into this experiment. We've been to the Peach Bowl & Orange bowl. I saw a ton of freshman redshirting on the sidelines this year. Maybe they're going to be ready to play the next 3-4 years?

Yup. I was around for the Bud Carson years. Invited to watch film by Rip Scherer of Curry's staff and Danny Smith (who recruited Joe Hamilton) of O'Leary's staff .

Last year was, overall, a great coaching job.

This year was one of the worst coaching jobs I have seen in my 40 plus years as a GT fan, and the worst since 1994. Exception: It's hard for the average fan to see, but the defense made great strides. Hiring Groh was PJ's best coaching move of 2010.

PJ is a great strategist and game day coach, but he hasn't proven he is anything more than an average BCS head coach. He is wearing both the OC and HC hats, and he is only doing one of those well. There is a lot more to the job than installing an offense and calling plays, which is what he is too singularly focused on.

However, he may succeed. We will know a lot more this time next year.

Oh, hey! Shut the **** up.

I remember Bill Lewis, not a name I really want to remember or mention in the same sentence as Georgia Tech.

He was left a great group of athletes such as Jones and others but like you said he couldnt coach them. The loss in Atlanta vs FSU when we had the game won was a bad omen for Bill.He could not get it done with athlets.Chan did same thing.
