ESPN Mag Making Stuff Up

McGee: I stand by my sources ... even though my sources don't stand by me.

Kinda cute of him to pull the ol' "uh, uh, it was a while ago maybe you don't remember it" line.

Of course you guys overreact about stuff. Is it really that hard to believe that maybe Uzzi might not remember talking to a guy from the media the weekend of the conference championship? I'm sure there are a lot of people from the media there.

Its harder to believe than believing a journalist made it up...

Somebody needs to be honest and apologize.

really? there have been quite a few major cases where it was shown that the totally made stuff up in major news stories

Could it have been Nick McRae? I doubt the reporter would mistake a white guy for a black guy. The quote implies the interviewee was on the OL.

I see three likely possibilities:
1. Uzzi truly forgot.
2. Uzzi was embarrassed of something he said and is lying.
3. Reporter mistook someone else for Uzzi.

Must be mistaken identity, because Uzzi doesn't even block that guy.

I just have a hard time believing any of our OL guys would say this:

"As complicated as people think our offense option is, the goal is really simple: All of us on the offensive line just look across to see who we're facing and say, 'Okay, that's the guy I have to beat on this play.'

You don't have to look very hard to tell that our OL just doesn't go 1-1 with the guy in front of them.

Yeah, that's completely made up. We pull guys all the time, on almost every play, and we turn guys loose to block downfield on almost every play. That's nonsense.

Someone should get Ken S to do a rebuttal piece.

The big issue occurs if NFL teams read anything into the comments quoted in the article.

What would be the motive for making up a quote like that? Tight deadline? I mean, the guy could have just called Uzzi.

I find it hard to believe someone would fabricate such a quote and risk their credibility. Maybe he supposes if it's not a big-name player that it won't get challenged too loudly?

Yeah, doesn't even make sense to our offense and sounds like they are really trying to talk up that kid.

That's my take as well. Create a persona for the draft telecast they can talk about and Uzzi be damned, since he won't be a first rounder.
