“Big Announcement in the Near Future”

I hope the big announcement is that no coach will be on next year's staff, for football. We need an overhaul.. One done right. One done with coaches that know what they are doing. Key isn't the magical answer. The man failed... repeat FAILED as an O-line coach. If you cannot succeed at a singular level, there is nothing to suggest you will succeed at a higher level. Take the "tech man" concept away and use common sense. I know I am standing on this island, with my thoughts...and that's ok. I was right about Roof. I was right about Collins... But, what do I know?

Self imposed death penalty?

Occam's Razor, guy is hired for his fundraising ability, it's going to be some fundraiser. Probably will take advantage of the fact that everyone is excited for a new head football coach.

Batt calling it a "very big" announcement and not just "big" makes me think though it could be something other than a run-of-the-mill thing. But it might just be "very big" as far as the ambition of the fundraising program.

Probably the $2b capital campaign that will also seek to fully endow all scholarships in all sports. Maybe the updated Campus Master Plan with new facilities, but I'd imagine he'd want to more closely look that over unless it was some huge obvious grand slam already. Maybe both.
So exciting and energizing......

The only conceivable thing that would warrant the use of the words 'very big announcement' from him in a mass email to everyone on this distribution list is a move to the Big Ten. Any sort of routine athletic department thing would just be an 'announcement' and I'll be annoyed if it's just something like that.

$200M fundraiser to pay off our debt would be exciting.

I wouldn't pay off debt at low interest rates in this environment unless the terms are about to change. Hopefully we locked in low rates long term the past few years.

Maybe we are gonna rebuild the stadium.

Truthfully, it is going to be some sort of money raising announcement. Stadium improvements. Infrastructure.

For those that don't recall, Tennessee was in a bad way a decade or so ago with facilities. I believe they even used non athletic funds to improve athletic facilities. Tennessee is now beginning to have payoff.
I’ve been told time and time again that there is no way any GT money can be used for athletics. Whenever I brought it up and posted where there is a Will there is a way I’ve been mocked and told I don’t understand the system. I guess Cabrera doesn’t understand that either. GT has never been broke and has billions so all the whining about poor little GT that our own fans have bought into is just nuts. We are one of the richest schools in the southeast. It sounds like our President is ready to use GT mOney to improve GT’s reputation.

Maybe we are rebooting Tech's proud football history. Wouldn't it be a better world if Bobby Dodd had been a woman of color?
