2020 Recruiting

I can promise you, recruits don’t pay much attention to what your record is.
Did it effect our recruiting when we won the orange bowl or the next season when we won 3 games?
Nope.
Recruiting is about relationships, playing time and location and comfort.
Not much emphasis on wins and losses and sadly academics in most cases.

Neither the 2009 nor 2014 seasons resulted in any noticeable bump in recruiting. The 2015 class was the one that ended their careers in the Detroit Debacle last December.

HS Recruits hated that system, combine that with HC that never liked recrootin to start with and you get no bump

Also, you have to look at it from a teen's perspective, neither of those Orange Bowls meant anything to the players, there was no NC implications

The 2nd OB in 2014 we were runner up playing a Team with 3 losses that failed to make their Conf-CG, that game was only important to GT Fans age 65 & up

11 yrs is a long time to a schoolkid, for a lot of these Recruits, as long as they have followed CFB GT was running an unattractive boring Offense

Hard to get a bump when you're not perceived as a place where a player's goals can be achieved

Dude, the 2014 OB was a NY6 Bowl in the inaugural year of the CFP Playoffs. Don't treat it like it's chopped liver.

I’m not 65 and I had a great time at that Orange Bowl. I do remember being pissed off at the time that we have to play one of the most boring SEC teams in Miss St instead of an LSU, Auburn, etc. so that no one cared because of that.

See statement about indivdual games impacting recruiting. Respond to question about 11-year-long perceived recruiting barriers. This post gets 4 out of 5 Stingtalks.

Didn't we also do that while benching the #1 QB in the nation in favor of everyone's favorite talking head Tommy Luginbill stoking the flames of the great race war of 94?

Yeah, I just looked it up as a refresher-

Donnie Davis was the National HS player of the year in ‘92, went 55-2 @ Burlington Cummings HS. He never really achieved the status that he came in with, but looking back at the stats, Luginbill’s ‘94 numbers were about the same as Davis’ ‘93 and ‘95 numbers.

This QB decision by B*** L**** divided the locker room and led to his firing. The guy of course should have never been hired over George O’Leary, but for some reason his one successful year at East Carolina led Homer Rice to hire him -one of the few blemishes on Homer Rice’s time as AD.

We were ACC runner up

Mrs State was LOWER than the SEC runner up, did NOT make the SEC CG

Despite the NAME of the game being the Orange Bowl, that game was the EQUIVALENT of the Gator Bowl with Joe Ham when we were ACC Co-Champs

Recruits that follow CFB closely know that when you ADD IN 3 games at the top (2 Semis & 1 CFP-CG) then that decreases the "perceived value" of that Orange Bowl game in the eyes of Recruits, in their eyes that game was on the same level as a Gator Bowl when we were ACC runner up

GT Fans 65 & over think it was the greatest achievement since the Polio vaccine, but to RECRUITS that follow CFB closely it wasn't a big deal

When the OB isn't in the Championship Rotation it is just another Bowl Game to Recruits

In today's Social Media Age these kids are a lot more information savvy

As smart as us GT Alums are I would think that we would understand these things

Really not getting what you are trying to prove here. If it's the equivalent of the Gator Bowl with JoeHam, then it's a pretty big deal, relative to our recent history. If you were to say that we haven't made enough major bowls, then you'd have a valid point. But to try and downplay one of the few major bowls we've made in the past couple of decades makes no sense. We finished the season ranked # 7. I think we would take more seasons like that and are actually hoping Collins can get us there more often.

We didn't get a recruiting bump off of it because PJ wasn't a recruiter and his system was always going to be a barrier, not because the Orange Bowl wasn't a big deal

Mississippi State was the #1 team in the country during the 2014 season. They were 10-2 heading into our game. They almost beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa that season, which likely would have put them in the CFP. Unfortunately, like we did in 2009...they fell asleep at the wheel in a rivalry game @Ole Miss (who also was very good that year...see below). Dak Prescott was their QB in 2014, who finished top 10 in the Heisman voting and is now one of the better QBs in the NFL. I expect for him to be the highest paid player in the league at some point in 2019. This was the biggest win for GT Football since the 1990 season.
