2022 Recruiting

Dangit - we are so hosed at the QB position now. Oh... wait, still have Sims and Peery. Nope, we're good.

Living in TN for over 25 years I can tell you that anyone not living in Memphis considers that city to be equal to Athens, GA. It’s the butthole of the state.

Memphis is nothing like Athens, GA. Memphis at the very least has nationally renown Bar-be-que, the Peacock Hotel, Mud Island, Memphis Zoo, etc... I get the butthurt about losing a recruit to Memphis but I've been to Memphis several times and it is much more interesting and fun than Athens. Chattanooga ain't nothing to shout about either.

Idk about the NIL and Grandpa quotes… that’s all inspirational and öööö but feel like there is more to this story. Feels like he’s trying to peice together reasons with duct tape to make it seem like this is where he wanted to be. Best of luck to him, he’ll need it.

I suspect you are right. Him coming here seemed a foregone conclusion but there was a long delay for some reason. He posted nothing but GT stuff for a couple months. Then, an out of the blue commitment to Memphis without any of the insiders catching wind of it. Something weird.

I'm not gonna hate on Memphis, the city or the program. And I am definitely not gonna irrationally hate on our coaches.

I'll say though that if gramps came out in a Clempson, LSU, or even Aubrin tiger suit, I would say, "We lost one. Oh, well. That's recruiting."

But he came out in a Memphis tiger suit and I say, "The kid lost his choice of schools. Oh, well. That's recruiting."

"Stud"? Really? Look I think Carter is a good recruit and maybe could develop into a great college QB but there is a reason he is a 3* with not huge offers.

If we had a guy willing to fork over an NIL contract would you really want them to do it for Tevin Carter?
I love the spin...."there is a reason he is a 3 star" yet when we get a 3 star the board is giddy over it ("but ours are high 3 stars"). Amazing how perspective changes when an 18 year old chooses another school.

There’s nothing rational about being a fan - especially at Georgia Tech.

All schools, even Bama and Clemson, win some and lose some recruiting. The key is getting in the competition with the best players and getting some of them.

Disappointed we didn't get him, but I wouldn't be overly concerned right now. The guy who was supposed to be Collins' first QB is now at Toledo, and our starting QB was an FSU "commit" for nearly a year.

There are probably a few flippable QBs out there. Plus, there’s probably a few that haven’t gotten the attention they deserve yet.

Not spinning anything. Would have been happy to have him and think he would have been an asset to our program but some are freaking out like he was a sure fire future first rounder that CGC couldn't close on. The fact is he is a 3 star going to Memphis and he would have been a 3 year back-up as long as Sims stays healthy.

C'mon, it's Memphis. We zip in somewhere else, we pick up another QB, we zip right out again. He's not going to Alabama. It's Memphis. It's like he's going to Wisconsin State.

My comment wasn't necessarily directed at you - just towards fans in general (myself included). The term fan comes from "fanatic" - there's nothing rational in a fanatic. I'm definitely not rational when I expect us to win every game we play, but I do go into every game expecting a win. It's the fan in me.

Stole this from another site but since the same argument is going on here it's relevant. We didn't just lose one QB recruit, we've lost 4......
"The idea that a kid is going to pick a G5 school over a P5 school because the P5 school has a returning starter with 4 years left who just finished with a 1:1 TD:INT ratio…some of y’all need to wake up and see something is wrong with our QB recruiting."

I mean also factor in that all of our scholarship QBs are freshmen with the top one playing basically straight out of high school. We did add the QB from Temple, but I doubt he plays outside of injuries or blowouts.

This is a first-world problem that a winning program needs to easily overcome.
