I just don’t get you guys. You have been rooting for the GT jerseys for decades as fans. Why does the player inside the uniform matter so much to you? The players have never cared about you so I don’t understand why it matters if the guy inside the helmet is a first year, 2nd year, 3rd year, or 4th year player. I loved watching Singleton this year and he was a first timer. I loved watching King who was a first time player. A loved watching Rutherford and Haynes who were multi year players. Next year I’ll have no problem rooting for new first year GT players. And I darn sure ain’t giving up a sport I’ve been watching from birth because players change uniforms from time to time. If it wasn’t for the portal we probably win 3 games this year.

Most fans are loyal to the program in terms of of financial support, emotional connections, family stories and time. They want the players they root for to have the same amount of buy in. When players were committed to the college and earning degrees it’s easy to get behind them as members of the same community. Now it essentially feels like we play with contractors or mercenaries. The exception being “young transfers” who are stuck, but I guess that’s not a real thing either.

I guess technically anyone of these guys could come back who knows maybe new DC makes a call to Douse,Collins, or one of the young guys and they have a good talk and they allow them back if there mutual interest there?
 
Maybe. By my count, we've lost 13 to the portal on defense. Only maybe two I'd want back that haven't already moved along. This defense is getting a total rebuild

Having been on the board since 2003, I recognize when someone is building the base for the "I told y'all so" he hopes to use later. Don't trust our coaches. Lay that base of where you can point back later and say "see? I pointed this out at the end of 2024." or some such nonsense. People have a need to be right. If he's not right, none of us will remember and it will be forgotten. Nobody shows up and says "hey guys, I was wrong 6 months ago". They are looking for the "I pointed out this problem 6 months ago and you guys wouldn't listen"

Thanks for saying that so I don't have to. The same people show up when a game is going bad because they didn't want Key.

The transfer portal closes on January 2nd and here is a list of the top guys currently in it:

You'll see that most already have new schools.

There is also a 15-day window in May when people can enter the portal but fewer guys do it then and so less likely we find DL then.

So I'm not sure why y'all think we would get more DL players for next season other than "I like the coach so I believe they must have a plan".

Or at least top notch ones.
Also, what does that say about the prospects for our "leaves" who haven't found a place yet?? Not great compared to what they're leaving, IMHO.

I'm thinking we have a new DC lined up but they wanted to coach in a bowl game and keep it quite till then. Could also be true for players. Maybe they have a few lined up that will hit the portal after their bowl game.

It's just a hunch and I have no inside info or anything but it seems odd that they have been quite so far. Seems like there would have been an announcement one way or the other.
