9 wins out of 30

Key is not going anywher!
PNode deserves to be brought back to keep working with Sims, despite all the unfairly harsh critics of Sims he's made a huge leap this year and would've made a bugger leap with better OLine Play, PNode has earned 2 more years IMO.

PNode has also done a good job with Yates as well, my guess is that he's doing a good job with the entire QB Room.

Can this stingtalk meme stop? He was 7-4 vs. Dook. The four losses were all teams that had winning records and 3 of them were AP ranked during the respective seasons.

There were real shortcomings to beat CPJ w/. I'll never understand a large segment of this board that runs down any accomplishments that a GT coach has. It really is ok to be glad for the good/great seasons a previous coach had and root for the current coach to do great!
Kinda weak sauce to call the Guy an "Offensive Genius" , then in the same breath say, "it's OK that he lost a lot to Duke near the end because they were winning Duke Teams"

That line of thought seems inconsistent at best.

Just checked: CGC has not beaten more than 1 FBS team in any calendar month since he's been here.

There is a distinct difference in beating a bowl team than beating a 3 win team. That said we shouldn’t have been 1-4 in the last 5 vs Duke. We were probably the only coastal team that was. Same goes for VT.

I think CDP has earned another year. The offense has improved. The WR and TE coaching needs work.

Very fair comments.

Could you please reconcile how we can start out 6-0 vs Duke then end up 1-4 vs Duke after 7 Recruiting Classes AND Two Orange Bowls?

Ya gotta admit that's a huge dropoff where none of it sticks to the Teflon HC and all of it is dumped on MBob.

Personally, I think WRs are trending above average, except Norris(?), that doesn't play physical at the catch point and doesn't work back to the QB on certain Routes and doesn't seem to play physical, he seems to shy away from Contact and doesn't "want it bad enough".

I do think a large part of the recruiting dropoff is due to MBob’s funding. He also did a poor job working the alumni. That put CPJ in front of the alumni more than he should. Not everyone is good at kiss babies and laughing at dumb jokes.

And I do think a part of Duke’s rise is due to us not being in the market for a traditional OL, QB, TE, or even RB. We made Duke better. That part of the recruiting picture is structural and would apply to any option coach (air raid too, but to a lesser extent).

Add the fact that Cutcliff is a good coach who can optimize the players he has available.

The flip side is CPJ got tuned into how Foster defended the option. Foster tended to get more out of his players than he should.

I wonder how many times Duke had an extra week to prepare for the option.
Cutcliffe did make it a point to put the option on the table for his defense in preseason, be it spring or camp.
PJ was always good at making adjustments, and then making adjustments off that. I think Cut had a few extra adjustments lying in wait, figuring that PJ was going to answer what they were doing a certain way, and then have something else ready once PJ made his adjustment. Just a daylong coaching cat and mouse game.

There were two coaches who I recall who did most of the innovation on how to defend the Flexbone. We all give Bud Foster credit for his attack the mesh concepts. We should also give Cutcliffe credit (as much as it disgusts me) for coming up with the concept of moving the middle linebacker deeper away from the line of scrimmage which made him very difficult to block. Cutcliffe started it, and everyone copied it. And it gave us fits.

Guys, it ain’t that hard. Duke had Daniel Jones as QB in 2016, 2017, and 2018 - CPJ’s last 3 years. An NFL quality QB. Against our defense the last decade that’s why CPJ lost to them. Trying to come up with any other reasons is just funny. Oh and we had Taquon. It wasn’t fair at the most important position.

Duke starting to beat us is more due to Duke coming up than us going down, though we did have more down years from 2015-2018. After the 1994 season, Duke did not have a winning record until 2012 (4 years into Cutcliffe era). From 2013 to 2018, they averaged 7.67 wins per year before their current slump. That stretch includes a 10 win season, and a 9 win season. Duke was the Coastal champion in 2013. Going backwards from 2013, Duke didn't have repeating winning seasons until the 1960s. The whole narrative that CPJ brought us down below Duke's level is garbage. Duke saw basically their best 6 year stretch of the last 50 years from 2013-2018.

If CPJ is all that you Fanbois claim he is, then an "extra week" shouldn't make a difference.

So what you are saying is that you wish we were still running an Offense that is rendered ineffective if the opponent has an extra week of Practice?

Since you Guys hold CGC & CDP to the standard of "why didn't they make adjustments" then hold CPJ to that same standard and ask why didn't he make adjustments to Teams that had an extra week to prepare?

So the Offense that everyone pines for and literally yearns for, is so "mercurial" that it is only good enough to go 1-4 vs Duke Teams that average 7.67 wins per year.

That doesn't sound like a great system, and the Guy running it doesn't sound like an Offensive Genius either.

Hmmmmm?

Was Taquon forced upon CPJ , or did CPJ Recruit him?

CPJ was notorious for Recruiting Players that "are good enough for my system" (his words verbatim)

Instead of using each scholarship to Recruit the best players available and finding a System to take advantage of their Talents.

So if we ended up with a Taquon vs Daniel Jones (Top10 NFL Draft Pick), then blame the way our HC used his Resources, his scholarships.

Will anything ever stick to CPJ?

Maybe we should rename it the Teflon Option Offense?

I don't see anyone pining for anything but if they were it was maybe the 2 Orange Bowls, 3 ACCCG appearances, 1 ACC Championship (our first since 1990). ending long losing streaks to UGA and FSU. Beating UGA back to back years in Athens (how many teams do that?).

Do you have some special connection to Duke that makes it a season defining game? if so, I guess the last 2 years have been great seasons for you.
