A thread about uga

Throwing all their resources at Discrediting the source rather than address the allegations. This is like a lawyer painting the picture of a rape victim having a history of being a slutty past, rather than proving that the incident in question never occurred.

The key phrase in your post is "If there are cracks and holes in the story", and the key word is IF. Are there really cracks and holes, or is this just another example of thugs getting their way at the expense of others?
I don't believe there were. If there were, then why not go after that instead of have to drag 35 years into someone's past to try to discredit their work that puts you in a bad light? Also, how is this not a misappropriation of funds from the UGAA? They had to pay somebody to dig for dirt on a damn newspaper reporter.

And the rape victim is a 53 year old married mother of 3 that had a single one night stand when she was 18

Trying to catch up on the story.
- Where was it reported that Alan Judd resigned or was fired from the AJC? I searched and didn't find anything from anywhere reputable.
I'm not so sure he has now... all of the stories I saw about that yesterday have now been taken down. I think some UGAg sites were falsely reporting that. Imagine that. Pot meet kettle.

Pretty much any entity is going to spend money to defense the public perception of its brand. Also, just as likely that funds came from a donor rather than from the AA

I will be shocked if this is mentioned at all during the SEC Media Event in Nashville this week.
The Augusta paper, which, from a sports point of view, is nothing more than an extension of the Athens paper, had an article today written by the sports editor of the Athens paper, entitled "Five questions that Kirby Smart Needs to Answer at SEC Media Days." Not one of those five questions had anything at all to do with the mess in the cesspool. Hopefully, somebody with integrity will challenge Kirby on the total lack of accountability in the cesspool. If I were a journalist attending those meetings, that would be my number one question.

You'd think someone from Tuscaloosa or Knoxville or Gainesville would, but glass houses and all that

LOL, the Augusta Chronicle. Color me surprised.

It's the Tiger Woods corollary in play. Nobody ever wrote anything damning about Woods (and there is a lot of material there) because they were afraid they weren't going to get a chance at their big sit down with him. Even though ... they were never going to get a big sit down with him.
They won't write or ask anything provocative or inflammatory because King Kirby might not take their next softball question at the SEC Championship Game media opportunity. (Oh, no. And I had been saving this really great question for such a long time ... my career is over!!!! I'm going to stick voodoo pins in my Kirby doll and crank up my emo and Taylor Swift tracks!!!!!)
There are way, way too many fanboys working in "media" covering the SEC anyway. There are still a couple of really good journalists and writers doing it. But there are too many folks who start their questions in a post game presser with "We..." instead of "The team..." or "You..."

Bear in mind too they have been and remain part of the same network. They had both been Billy Morris papers before he sold out to Gatehouse/Gannett and now they are Gannett papers (Gatehouse is actually the controlling interest but they figured more people knew the Gannett and USA Today brand when they bought it, so they kept the Gannett label).

Not having read the Knoxville paper in quite some time, if there had been anybody there reporting on Pruitt's misdeeds at the time it was happening, bully for them.

There used to be two papers in Knoxville and competition really does matter. you get that scoop, especially one with a lot of dirt, that's a big thing.
The problem is, there are so few papers left. AJC never really has had any comp in covering its beats but even it's had to pull back so much and no one has been able to step in and fill that void. You see more of the institutions investing in their own platforms to get their stories out directly and then the fansites that are geared toward keeping fan interest alive (Do Jackets have a shot with this top-10 5-star monster? and those kinds of headlines, even though the truth is no, we got no shot, but you want the fans to pony up the dough to click on the link). That's a result of the internet age.

I wish the Atlanta Times had survived.

At least, before the sellout, the Augusta paper at least made an attempt to cover all the area schools. Hell, the local Augusta University basketball team doesn't get any coverage in the Augusta paper now, and they are perennially one of the best Division 2 basketball teams in the country
If anybody believes Kirby didn't know about that when it was happening, he's a damn idiot.

Good friend of mine was the SID at Augusta State back in the day.
And Augusta is probably facing the same fate of so many papers - massive cutbacks.
The Savannah Morning News once had six people in its Sports department. Now it has one.
Talking with my friends in that industry, it is only going to get worse. Savannah Morning News doesn't even have an office anymore. No building. Nothing. Sold it to Colonial Oil. Press got sold a couple of years for scrap.

I seldom go into downtown Augusta, but I am pretty sure the old building used by the Augusta Chronicle just sits vacant now.
