A thread about uga

Where’s Spurrier when you need him?
Good thought - I can here him now. "If you are a driving instructor, they needs you in Athens now." "NASCAR has added another race in Athens later this year - should be a real wreckfest." Just a sample.

Threatening his family over this? This is cult-like to the point of Jim Jones followers.
Maybe someday have a chat with John Davis over the threats his father’s family business faced from dwag fans after he committed to GT.

Or maybe a chat with those who were close to Jan Kemp.

This might be new to some of y’all but I’m here to tell you there is nothing new about any of this.

And, I forget who it was in this thread that was nostalgic for back when the Augusta paper would cover both Tech and the dwags. Pretty sure you dreamed that because any such parity evaporated by the late 60s.

Billy Morris was a dick. We crossed paths a few times back when I was working myself to death to pay for my GT degree (which I would do again in 2 seconds). And my best buddy growing up was cut loose by he Augusta paper after decades of paying dues there - he now proudly covers F$U.

There is nothing new or different about any of this. And it will end the same way. Like it never happened.

I am the one you are referring to, but I never said that the Augusta paper provided EQUAL coverage of the mutts and the Jackets. But until 5 years ago, we at least got SOME coverage, and the times I complained to the Sports Editor at the time (dismissed after the sell out to USA Today), he at least responded to me and gave me a "door prize", so to speak, with an additional article or two about Tech for a few weeks. I honestly don't remember what kind of coverage Tech got in the Augusta paper in the 60s or 50s, but I doubt it was anywhere near parity even then.

By the way, John Davis' brother sometimes posts on here, under the name "MoverofFridge2". It would be interesting to hear what he has to say about how his family was treated when John signed with Tech.

Word on the street was that UGA lawyers were going to sue him/AJC over slander... Still where there's smoke, there's fire.

Doesn't look like Kirby faced any hard questioning over the sexual assault coverup reporting.
Maybe reporters were cautioned not to ask before hand or were told he wouldn't answer those questions any way. I don't know. But I haven't seen indications he was asked about that anywhere during his time at SEC Media Days.

Y’all are letting them live rent free in your head because for some reason many of you still believe the Lone Ranger is coming in on his white horse to bring fairness to sports. There is no Lone Ranger and nothing about sports is fair. And the topper was seeing Tech people believing the AJC was now a beacon of journalism.

UGA using their money to legally bully the poor AJC who desperately didn't want to get sued over some small inaccuracies. The two corrections are just:
1. The "precise count of 11 players" could not be verified.
2. Two quotes made minutes apart were joined as one quote, without changing the meaning of the quote.

That's it! Of course they fire the journalist as their scape goat. "No need to sue us, we got rid of the problem!"

The bottom line is "[t]he AJC review found no instances of fabrications in the story" and "[t]he AJC declined the letter’s demand for the article to be retracted".

This is crooked öööö, rather than having any accountability over serious allegations like most large organizations would, UGA jumps to defensiveness and legal threats in order to discredit the story.

Thank you, Alan Judd, for sacrificing your job to do the right thing and report an important story. It isn't worth working for people who would fire you for that.

It's the AJC and uga, why would it need to die there. It's not like it's the government and media in collusion. These are small players overall. Seems like other outlets would be interested in pursuimg this. öööö the AJC.
