ACC ded

Oh, yes, indeed, I was at that game. It was the most intense football game I have ever been to. The students were a far cry better back then than they are now. We were in our seats and cheering a full hour before kickoff, and needless to say, the stadium was packed. As a rat, I was in the old temporary bleachers on the track and right behind the Bama team. From the moment we got thee, it was "Bama sucks!", "Go to hell, Alabama, go to hell", "Bear sucks", and most of all, "Remember Darwin Holt. Remember Darwin Holt" at the top of our lungs. Hell, I didn't even know until my friends explained it to me who Darwin Holt was....LOL. I learned quickly though. When Namath came in at QB, it was "Namath can't do it; Namath can't do it". I don't remember if we stormed the field when it was over or not, but there was definitely no rush to leave, and I remember being there for quite a while. Programs were cheap (50 cents, IIRC) and actually worth having, so I bought one and still have it. It might be worth something as a collector item, except I scrawled the final score on the cover.

Ahhh, the memories !!!
was that the game where Bear Bryant wore the football helmut to pass by the GT student section?

I think it was. I asked Mickey Andrews (who played for that Bama team) what exactly happened. He laughed and said the Tech students were raining liquor bottles on the Bama sidelines (mostly because of the Holt/Granning incident). He said at halftime, the Bear asked who had the biggest helmet and a kid who didn’t play much gave Bear his helmet

There was an article in the Augusta paper today (which is owned by USA Today) about NBC's new Fall prime-time lineup, and it included several prime-time Big Ten games. After watching this video, I have to wonder what's going to happen now? Sure seems like the Big Ten is as screwed up as the ACC. I for one would be more than happy to attend a prime-time Tech - OSU/UM/PSU game at Grant Field.

We should just say "we will join, but aren't travelling north of the Mason Dixon after October 1st and any games on the west coast must start at noon eastern time."

not sure i understand the seriousness of these issues even after reading the ESPN article
I am not a lawyer, but my guess is It will all likely be worked out with all of this "horse trading" and finalized in the coming weeks.

BUT, the door is open should something arise to throw a wrench in the works. It appears a lot of people were in the dark on the dealings and the former commissioner didn't actually have authority to negotiate everything in the very large and complicated agreement. Should any aggrieved party seriously object at this late stage and put up a legal fight, the B1G could have a real nightmare on its hands as could the broadcast parties involved.
It COULD be a disaster. But probably won't be.

That said, to have it be an open issue at this late date, especially after information about the deal was released and presented as complete, is unconscionable. It leaves everyone involved in a very vulnerable position. There will likely be some ugly fallout even if it all gets worked out.

I might add that it is interesting that Fox holds the rights for B1G games and are essentially licensing the broadcast rights to other networks for a profit. It leads me to wonder if ESPN would be willing to broker their rights for the ACC GOR and thus possibly open the door for other networks to cover the games for a fee to ESPN and add revenue to the ACC member teams for the broadcasts. Might be a good work around if it could be done and still keep the ACC together.

ESPN/Disney needs the money. The ACC needs the money. Would seem the motivation is there if there is a buyer.

Sounds messy all around, not sure the video presents the full story. Why did the conference and schools sign off on the initial deal if they all knew it had problems & none of the schools informed their athletic departments?

We need to ask Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington to come to the ACC.

I seem to recall Penn State was seriously considering it at some point.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, if you could pick your "dream" conference, what 12 teams would you pick and why? Why 12 teams? I don't know. Anything more than 12 teams in a conference just seems stupid to me. It's not really a conference in my mind over 12. It becomes more of a loose confederation of some sort. More like an association. An affiliation of sort.

If you don't play all conference members every year, it's not really a conference to me.

I really think these giant "super-conferences" are going to eventually collapse under their own weight. The sooner the better.

My conference would be Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Georgia, FSU, Florida, Ohio State, Kentucky, UNC, and Duke.

I would go back to our SEC roots for most of the 12, unfortunately including the mutts. These would be my choices ---

Tech
Clemson
FSU
Florida
Bama
Auburn
LSU
USCe --- might as well keep it regional
Ole Miss
Miss State
Miami (YUCK)
Georgia (DOUBLE YUCK)

Killer schedule, obviously, but Grant Field would be packed for almost every home game, and if we improved (no reason why we couldn't), Tech fans would increase as well.

What a thread hijack, but I'm game. I'm going with 14 though since I think that has turned out well.

Georgia Tech, uga, FSU, Florida, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, VPI, UVA, UNC, NCST, Alabama, Auburn. Just missed: WVU, Pitt. Geography, public only. öööö miami
