Why wouldn't you give an advantage to the top two Conference champions? In almost every single given year, there is a huge drop-off from the top two conference champions. I don't like going to 8 because then you're right back to where we are... subjective bulshit that creates the opportunity for multiple teams from the same conference. F that.

This year Alabama and Michigan would have earned a first-round bye. Baylor, Utah, Cincy, and Pitt/Notre Dame (the other fly in the ointment) should have had to fight harder.

Because ESPN is gonna pick 2 SEC teams as 1 and 2.
Give me the opportunity to watch more football; not the opportunity to listen to Herbstreit et al postulate on who should be the 2 getting a bye.

Why in the hell would I not want to watch more football?

Did you not read my original post? The SEC can't have two conference champions. No one gets more than one. You want to expand it out further, fine. It's all a bid for the SEC to get 3+ in.

Eh, if we’d stayed in the SEC we still would have turned into Vandy eventually. The game and our circumstances changed to our detriment, whether we were in the SEC, independent, or ACC. At least we got a title in ‘90 out of the deal

You can argue where things would be today and that is fine. But very few people on here truly understand all the great things Dodd did for GT. A few pages out of his playbook wouldn’t hurt the program right now

I'd like to say "obviously yes", but given our stadium's proximity to so many SEC schools, and their penchant for traveling, I'm actually not sure how good of an idea that would be for us.
 
I don’t love the headline of “not in favor of playoff expansion” but do agree with his sentiment that there are much larger issues endangering the sport, and that their should be focus on rethinking the ncaa as a governing body.

If you use the CFP rankings, the breakdown of conference teams each year for a 12 team playoff would be some combination of:

3-4 SEC(one year they had 2)
2-4 Big 10
2-3 Big 12
1-2 Pac 12
1-2 ACC(usually 1)
Notre Dame and/or 1 G5

Given the current state of college football, I don’t think those numbers will change much in the near future and accurately show the current strength of the conferences. If you are overly concerned about too many teams from one conference, cap it at 4.

In a situation where 4 teams have to play 3 games and 2 teams only have to play 2, that's dramatically unfair.
Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing a 16-team playoff but an 8 team is much preferred to a 6.

Give me all 5 of the P5 champions plus 3 at large. Let em play it out. Win/win.
 
NIL, player portal/free agency, $20 mil/yr coaching salaries and flagrant paying players is not college football. College football by definition is an amateur sport.
What needs to happen is the SEC just breaks away from the rest of the country and forms a mini NFL league. It will be just like NASCAR, a regional sport largely ignored by the rest of the country.
The rest of the country can then play college football, where the student athletes are there in large part to get an education and a diploma, and actually appreciate the scholarships.

Wake me up when they expand the College Football Playoff to 128 I think we would be in it then.
 
I only want CFP expansion if it means auto-bids. NIL is much more detrimental to the health of the game and has to be regulated ASAP. We are seeing glorified pay for play
