As pissed as I am, I still believe Key is building a Championship program.

Damn just looked it up and refs had it right. You can't advance the ball if you call fair catch even if it hits the ground. I thought once it gott the ground you could pick up and advance.
But I thought a fair catch on a kickoff is a touchback regardless of where it happens. Is it different if it hits the ground first?

Key, Faulkner, and Santucci might be on Stone Mountain soon...
I like that Key understands COFH. You can see it in the way he prepares for this game and in his obvious hurt at coming up short. You can see that he has instilled that in the players as well. That was always my biggest issue with Gailey. Good man, decent coach, but never truly a Tech Man. Brent Key is definitely a Tech Man.

It's only a touchback if you catch it.

We also almost really messed up another time where the KO bounced on the goal line and rolled back into play. Our returner was running away from the ball waving his arms. A few inches shorter and that would have been a live ball and he wasn't watching where they ball landed.

I haven't seen a coach more upset after a loss than CBK. I mean, intense level of emotions.

A lot to be positive about. But also, we need our head coach to take the step forward that our players have taken in his ability to coach a game. I think he’s a good coach in practice but he has to get better in-game or we are going to keep playing close games when we should blow someone out, and it’s going to mean a few games that we never should have lost, like last night.

How much of this team will be here next year? I hate what college football has become.
Nationally, people will pat us in the head and say nice try, but no upset.
And if CFB isn’t what it is now, games like last night don’t happen. GT doesn’t have a borderline 5* Haynes King at QB. Quit with the “Get off my lawn” BS and either accept CFB or don’t watch. The Portal has drastically helped everyone outside of the annual Top 10. Why? Because SA’s aren’t going to sit and wait 3 years to play. Those programs no longer have the depth they once had, and the product on the field across CFB is now as wide open and fun as it’s been in my lifetime for sure.

Look at Indiana. They are on the doorstep of their greatest season in history. Point proven.

I am still just beyond sad. But so proud of this team. Officiating gets the most blame from me, but Birr's miss, prevent defense, and the OT playcalling also are things we just have to be better at. Going to be feeling this one for a while. But also...I absolutely do believe in the direction Key has this program headed in. Recruiting class for 2025 is the best in a very long time so far. Would be huge to get to 8 wins and get this taste out of our mouth in the bowl game.

Come to think about it, Tech dominated the last three games but still came close to losing all three in the end. All because of ööööty ass prevent defense.

Can someone explain why coaches run that stupid defense?

We've seen time and time and time and time again where teams go into that bullcrap at the end of a game up by two scores or less and end up losing. We saw where even 22 seconds is more than enough for a team to run a couple of plays and get in position for a 58 yard FG attempt last week against NC State. We saw where NC State went into it with 90 secs left and a true freshman QB drove down the field and scrambled the last 40 yards in two plays to score.

The other night, Dallas was up by the same score over the Giants and suddenly went into the prevent with under 4 minutes left. A FOURTH STRING QB that was being chased all over the field, sacked, hit, pummeled was suddenly able to complete passes because the Dallas defense was playing soft (prevent) and the Giants scored a TD just outside the two minute warning. Only a sensational third down catch by the Cowboys advanced the chains to allow them to run out the clock. Even Tom Brady was saying that he loves the end of close games and the opponents drop into the prevent...he knows he is going to drive down the field and score either a game-winning TD or set up for a game-winning FG. We see Patrick Mahomes do the same thing with even less than 20 secs left.

So...SOMEBODY EXPLAIN TO ME WHY COACHES ARE SO MARRIED TO THE PREVENT DEFENSE!!!

GO JACKETS!!

No it’s what I see as reality. I genuinely believe Tech athletes go into games preparing and hoping to beat UGA but in the back of their heads expect to lose. On the other hand, UGA expects to win and is shocked when they don’t. Pick a sport, we can go into the game having the better athletes and team and still find a way to lose. But the boys fought hard and we are making progress. We played them better than most teams in the country, blah blah blah. It’s all moral victories and becomes acceptable. No way in hell Kirby would be telling his guys how proud of the effort if they lost that game last night. Yet, it’s the first thing we say because we’re pleased it’s even competitive. It’s a mental as it is physical at this point and you can see it across all sports.
My way of looking is we don't need to have a we're gonna conpete mindset we need to have a we're gonna win or lose and if you think we're gonna lose then the door is right there.

Exactly

Because if you get beat over the top as the mutts against bama then it's gonna be why aren't you playing back. It's a Damned if you do Damned if you don't sad reality.

Alabama started playing soft zone in the second half which was a semi-prevent against UGAg in the second half instead of continuing to put the pressure on Carson Beck and it nearly cost them the game.

If you give a half-way decent QB a prevent defense, chances that half-way decent QB is going to beat you. And like it or not, Carson Beck is going to be an NFL QB. Maybe not a starter, but he will play in the NFL. Once Tech dropped into prevent, it was basically over.

GO JACKETS!!

I can't wait until the day when we can scream fire Brent Key as he leads us to the playoffs and a potential national championship 3 out of 4 years!
Well then stay tuned, buttercup :naughty:

Look at the 3 primary positions GT has focused on in this recruiting class.

1. OL (Still potential for a Top 5 OL class in the nation with 1 potential flip).
2. DL
3. Secondary

Does that blueprint look familiar to anyone?
Exchange LB with DL and you’ve got it.

I literally was so angry I thought about ringing my TV's neck last night. Alas - I calmed down! Proud of the effort but also sick of the patronizing texts from me UGA friends saying "nice to see us competing again" and "We're back" type of stuff. I love TECH with all my heart and we ain't gone anywhere!

We gonna end up playing a team like Memphis or Tulane in the bowl game. Gives me ED.
