Athlon Preview of Georgia TECH and their 2022 Schedule

To be fair, our talent has been sub-par every year since Gailey and as a huge CPJ fan I'll openly admit that. So the anonymous quotes are valid. The difference is the previous coach had a Dodd-like confidence in his ability to outsmart and outscheme the opponents and he did so very successfully for many seasons. The current coach has no schematic advantage as he was not hired to scheme, but to market. Good grief...

The talent under CPJ was subpar if you were placing it in a non-option offense instead of a flexbone offense. We knew that from the get go, it was part of the reason for hiring Johnson in the first place, we would mostly target different players than the other P5 teams we were recruiting against. The same criticism now is terrible because were are targeting the same players as everyone else and coming up short.

I think we all need to wrap our heads around this concept- the perception of our football program will not change until we start winning again, with Collins or w/o. Who gives a rats' ace what Dabo or Pat Narduzi think(we know it's them). Let's quit bitching and pull for our team!

So basically the next coach is going to have to rebuild the roster. Ouch!
And it will be the new most difficult rebuild since the collapse of the Roman Empire. Gotta give it at least four more years before expecting to break the three win threshold.

If these coaches are right, then the biggest weakness in the G.T.A.A. isn't the head football coach, it's the AD who hired him.
If the AD is culpable then so is StingTalk for knowing better and doing nothing.
But you can't hold a whole college sports webite responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole college sports system? And if the whole college sports system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do say whatever you want about us, but I'm not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

Add in the school itself that does nothing to support the football program. The school loves to use the 1/X millionaire stat as a calling card, but no one gives any $$$ back to support the athletics programs.

The aging boosters who care about football, hoops, etc are tired of footing the bill to make a change. And the trend has been a change on the cheap. Hoops program is a prime example.

Bingo! We would def benefit from some millionaire/billionaire alumni or boosters who actually care about the football program. It could not hurt the cause.

Those coach comments are brutal but I can't say that I can argue with them. The quicker we end this ööööshow the better. TStan is a fool for letting himself get taken for a ride by this POS "coach".
And how do you expect GT (who will not spend any money) to pay Collins buyout, and hire a better HC + staff? The boosters are tired of footing the bill for bad hires on the cheap, and a school that does not invest in athletics. They get all this $$$ from alums for academic purposes, and let the athletics programs continue to drown in MAC level performance. Yet all the while wonder why a program in the city the size of Atlanta can barely get 40k to show up for football games.

The school either needs to invest or get out of the high level of athletics at this point. Relevancy is fading fast.

But if you're going to blame ToddStan for CGC and the football woes, don't you have to credit him for CJP and his tremendous basketball success?

And why exactly can’t GT recruit against Bama, Clemson, UGA, etc again?

All signs point to the school itself that does absolutely nothing to help the athletics programs by adding an athlete friendly degree or 2. And yes, it’s that simple. Spare me any of the BOR excuses. That is overblown with conspiracy theories and without fact. The only fact is, the BOR has more GT grads than UGA.

GOL’s Harvard M-F, FSU on Saturday’s quote never rang more true.

Exactly what "athlete friendly degree or 2" do you have in mind? Be specific.

Tech already offers degrees in Public Policy Analysis, International Relations and Affairs, Foreign Languages and Literatures, International/Global Studies , , ,

Besides, the football croots that matter are 4 and 5 stars who are training for the NFL and DNGAF about getting any college degree - especially useless ones.

The Roman Empire never did rebuild after collapsing. Mussolini tried during the World War II but failed. The only thing Italy leads the world in now is the COVID rates.

Simple answer. Something that doesn’t require Calc.

You’re right about the average 4-5* recruit. That said, the APR nonsense should also go away soon once the NCAA is fully out of FBS football.

LOL.

Anyway, you are correct. They never successfully rebuilt. Because it was too hard.

So maybe we staring at 3 win seasons for the next 1600 years?

Simply not true. GT like Stanford, NW and even ND cannot target the same players as tOSU, Bama, LSU, UGA, etc.

The schools academic requirements limit that pool from the start.

I just listed a bunch of degrees that do not require Calc.
Fair enough. Then the academic sword most fall on needs to be lessened to an extent.

The real issue continues to be the school itself. Look around the country. The amount of money being invested in facilities, etc is what attracts recruits. Of all programs, Texas Tech is now building a $200 million facility. That will end up (for now) as the most expensive in the country. Even NW has a great recruiting pitch with the facility along the lake.

At this point as someone pointed out on XM Radio, the facilities at the worst B1G school are better than the 2nd best in the ACC at the moment. All that shared media revenue has elevated that entire league.

I'm thinking that for 18 year old dudes, straight cash homey and smoking hot hookers >> a pretty building with a cool game room.

There are a ton of hookers in Atlanta. A lot more, and probably some better quality, than in Lubbock. Now that boosters paying players is fully approved, we just need some boosters to make the most of our best ASS . . . ets and put some of Atlanta's Finest on the payroll.

We are looking at a POSSIBLE 2 win season in the face,The only position that looks better this yr is QB.There are a lot of questions and very few answers. at this point..

Athlon ranked all 131 FBS teams.

Here's their Tech ranking and their take on Tech:

88. Georgia Tech
With a 9-25 mark over the last three years, it’s no secret coach Geoff Collins enters the ’22 season squarely on the hot seat. In addition to a roster that returns only four starters, an unforgiving schedule is on tap featuring non-conference matchups against Georgia, Ole Miss and UCF, along with ACC crossover games versus Clemson and Florida State. For the Yellow Jackets to take a step forward, more consistency is needed at quarterback from Jeff Sims (12 TDs, 7 INTs last season). And if Sims struggles, two transfers in Zach Gibson (Akron) and Taisun Phommachanh (Clemson) are waiting to push for snaps. Although Jahmyr Gibbs transferred to Alabama, the running back room is still in good shape with Dontae Smith, Hassan Hall and Buffalo transfer Dylan McDuffie. However, just one starter returns up front, and the receiving corps brings back a single player that caught more than 15 passes (Malachi Carter) last fall. Major improvement is needed on a defense that has ranked 13th or worse in the ACC in points allowed in each of Collins’ three years at the helm. Linebacker Charlie Thomas is the unit’s top player, but he will be playing with a lot of new faces as just one other starter returns and major turnover was experienced up front and in the secondary.

Wow , truly sad, to be a P5 quality team one would expect to be at least 65.Duke,Kansas,Colo and Vandy were the only P5's ranked below us.
Almost as if a huge anchor has been pulling us down for three years.
