I know folks who live out that way. The Google map of their property looks like a desolate wasteland, that just happens to make 98% of the picante sauce on Earth

Go spend some time at Fort Bliss, Alamagordo, White Sands, etc. They’re quite the garden spots. I’ve never spent any time in the Dakotas, but if this area is not worse than there I’d be surprised.

By the way, I’m not looking it up but I believe El Paso’s claim to fame is government because without Ft Bliss El Paso is just a skid mark on America’s underwear. I’m not sure Bliss raises it up much because it’s probably the worst place to be sent in the Army except maybe Polk or Irwin.

My biggest worry with ever moving out that way is the skittish nature of water rights. Hell, you could buy yourself 2,000 acres of land and have it rendered useless by the lack of water rights. A lot of shenanigans go on out west when it comes to water rights.

It sounds like Fort Bliss is a misnomer.
