Bowls, CFP, and other Disappointing Games Thread

Sankey getting remarks ready - will say the winner of OSU-ND should need to play Alabama for the title. Delighted to have two years in a row SEC is shut out of title game.
I suspect the SEC is in trouble for some time.

They’ve all built their programs around coaches whose skill basically lay in buying players when you couldn’t do it legally.

Now that other teams can buy players legally, they will find it difficult to compete with B1G coaches whose were largely not buying players as blatantly as the SEC and still competing (Ohio state being the likely exception).

It will probably take 3-5 years at least until they cycle through the coaches, but it may be even longer because these coaches will continue competing in the SEC (and beating up on crap ACC teams), which their fans have been conditioned to believe is the pinnacle of success. But they will struggle once they enter the playoffs.

The SEC’s other problem is their TV contract with ESPN. B1G has contracts with free national channels across all the networks. That means they are being cross promoted by NBC, CBS and Fox. You’re gonna have them promoting B1G games along with the NFL building a stronger brand.

The SEC dropping CBS to go all ESPN/ABC will likely be a big mistake in the long run.

Tech needs to take even the sliver of a chance to get into the B1G if we can.

A really good AD would make that happen.

I don't think changes are needed and these ideas will fail but it does suggest maybe an issue with picking of who gets in. So on th 2nd plays third team idea, is the thought that improves odds of more conference teams getting in? and oh, are we just going to do away with final game of Ga tech vs UGA and other traditional games - no way.

Based on what SEC blow hard / analyst Chris Doering said earlier this week, his fear is the sec will actually reduce OOC P4 games after what happened this year. His thoughts are, despite the ACC, B12, B1G going to 9 game conference schedules + decent P4 OOC games, SEC coaches have already complained about the “grind” of the current 8 game conference slate in addition to some ACC rivalry games. That said, he did go on to mention CKS was in favor of 9 game conference schedule + GT rivalry.

So despite failing to beat the B1G again in the post season, sec coaches are still making excuses.

Current power rankings......of course, Alabama. I'm guessing Bama might jump to #1 with Ole Miss #2 if ND / Ohio State ends up 13-10
