Impressive pair of grad assistants for a program like Central Michigan.
You're comparing the state of ND's program with the state of Army's and Navy's? Huh? ND will never dominate CFB like it did in the mid-century era, when it was the only 'national' program with a national (ethnocentric) fanbase. But ND remains a rich program with lots of talent – and lots of recent success to show for it. The idea that they lost two recent CFP appearances proves they are irrelevant is ridiculous. It proves they aren't as good as the two teams that beat them, and on that, no one would disagree. But being 3d or 4th best in the country is the opposite of being a 'second tier program.' (Unless I guess you define first tier as two teams!)
This is a testament to how good Brian Kelly is. He can spot good coaches. Another data point is that ND is rolling with the DC Kelly hired as HC.Impressive pair of grad assistants for a program like Central Michigan.
Brian Kelly is good, but there's a significant chance he's not good for LSU. Lest we forget, he bolted from #3 Cincy before their Sugar Bowl, now he's bolted from #6 ND which might still get into the CFP with a little chaos. He keeps leaving places riiight before he accomplishes the goal, and Saban won't be around forever.............
A few decades ago? Would you care to guess the last time Army or Navy finished in the Top 5? 1958 for Army (#3), 1963 for Navy (#2).Could you not have made this exact same posts about the service academies a few decades ago?

So You’re speculating about fifty years in the future? On that timeline any program could disappear. Certainly does not demonstrate that ND is an also ran.Exactly, they were both top 5 programs. Army has 2 National Championships and 3 Heisman Trophy winners. Navy has 1 National Championship and 2 Heisman Trophy winners. Where are they now. Does anyone think of Army or Navy as top tier programs? There is no reason to think ND will always be a top tier program, in fact it is arguable amongst fans under 50 that they aren't one now. Georgia Tech has won a National Championship more recently that ND. I would agree they are high profile right now; but the way the football landscape is shaping up how long can they maintain it? All it takes is for the major conferences to stop giving them preferential treatment come playoff time and they are toast.

Huh? I hardly think that at all. ND could tank tomorrow just like any other program. You claimed ND was *already* a second-tier program. That's crazy.I know it easy for us old guys to believe ND will always be a top tier program because it always has been; but if the major conferences align against them they will just be a has been.

I think that and also that the recycling epitomizes something deeper. "Brian Kelly is an insincere self-serving traitor. Not only can he not come up with fresh cliches for LSU, he can't even come up with fresh B-roll."It's really hard to tell what is going on in this video. Is the criticism here that they recycled some footage of him sitting down?
