Catch Me Up?

Their backup QB's score points, so I don't think we run the same offense

Clemson- L
WC- W
Ole Miss- L
UCF- W
Pitt- W
Duke- W
UVA- W
FSU- W
VT- W
Miami-W
UNC- W
Ugay- L

best case scenario
Why would Clemson be a loss? They aren't world beaters this season.

I worry more about the last 5 games. Could get ugly. I'm hoping Sims has a world beater season this year with the new OC.

Which is the problem. Georgia Tech is trying to run the same offense as bama and georgie. There was no law saying we had to hire a coach who can't run the option and had to try and run a pro style offense.
There was no law saying it but continuing to run it would just be punishing ourselves and put us deeper into that hole. Most everybody saw the writing on the wall and was ready to move on from the option. Rules are being made yearly that highly affect the blocking schemes used in option offenses. Even before that, the gap was growing considerably larger the last few years between GT and our opponents in terms of talent. That gap was never going to close if we continued to run the option, and it got to the point that we were being so physically out-manned by teams on our schedule that our scheme wasn't enough to overcome it. Folks can say all they want about CPJ not getting the support or the money he needed to recruit better but it's a 100% fact that several of our top recruits over the last couple cycles flat out said they would not have considered GT if we were still running the option. That is a real thing. Don't get me wrong, I loved CPJ, was thrilled when we hired him and knew he could be successful at this level, but I honestly thought that once he proved he could be successful that the recruiting would pick back up and not suffer the way it has. For as much good as he did for the program, the wins we got, big bowl wins, ACC championship, etc., it's still entirely possible to say that going to the option set us back 5+ years as a program because at some point we were going to go away from it.

So now we’re going to use the CPJ/option excuse for 5+ years? Great.

You are 100% wrong my friend. I don't know of anybody willing to keep him if we have another sub-par year. You guys that are 100% against him are the only ones I see thinking that people are all-in on him. Nobody is all in on him. We are rational and giving him the benefit of the doubt for all the hurdles he's faced. This season is it. It's time to show results or go. If you expected turnaround 2 years ago, that was delusional on your part. He had 1 season then COVID hit before he could even have a Spring with his first recruiting class. I don't know how you expected anybody to make any significant progress with that.
I am one of those weird people that expect results. I use very simple tests. Let's use the Money Ball theory. If Collins is such a great coach, why isn't he great coach? Odd, how other teams did pretty ok, during COVID. So, COVID (to me) is a crutch. I can give people the benefit of the doubt, when I can see they are learning (getting better). I see no progress with Collins. None, zero, zilch..nada.... I hope I am wrong and we rattle off 6,7,8 wins. However; I foresee another 3 win season coming. I also foresee him using the schedule as an excuse. Lastly, I foresee the same set of people (giving him the benefit of the doubt). I have no faith in our program our AD and half our fan base.

Well then take your million$, offer Collins a buyout, and go get us a new coach. Be that guy. Miami did that. Be a hero and save us

Tell me what other teams had the same thing going we did during COVID. Teams that are already established sure it's much easier to keep them going like usual. He had his first year to start implementing new concepts from the ground up: new offense, new defense, new culture, etc. First recruiting class was basically half CPJ's and half his of who he could even get that late in the process. Best DL (likely NFL ready) Big B dies unexpectedly during the offseason. I had hopes but zero expectations that first year and anybody that did was delusional. Citadel game positively sucked but it was year 1 so I just let that go. Then year 2 he finally gets his first full recruiting class, top WR recruit commits suicide days before reporting to campus, and then during spring COVID hit. We had to shut down spring practice and they didn't get any ability to practice together over summer other than what they did on their own. Fall camp 2020 was basically the first time they could all work together and that was kept in smaller groups with very limited "whole team" periods of practice. Throughout that entire season we had multiple guys each week out for COVID protocols and that meant missing practice time and games. So then by the time year 3 rolls around it's almost like starting over again. I expected results in year 3 and was disappointed but I can see giving him one more year to see if he pulls it out due to all of that, plus adding in the changes he made with the staff.

I saw flashes in year 3 that I considered improvement but we have to build on that and make it more consistent. I don't think there is any way that year 1 or year 2 teams play Clemson that close or beat UNC like we did. The OL pretty much crumbled after that and the wheels fell off the whole thing soon after. I loved Yates and he played his ass off for GT but I just don't think he was suited for what we were trying to do on offense and we had to become too one dimensional when he came in. I think if Jeff doesn't get hurt against NIU he eventually shakes off the cobwebs and we pull that one out. He was actually starting to play better on that last drive where he got hurt. I think we would have had a better shot at beating Clemson had he played, and we definitely would have had more offense in the final two games if he wasn't hurt. This year I believe we have more capable backups that will also push him in practice so he should A)get better and B)if he is still injury prone, we should be in better shape if a backup has to play.

It sucks that all this has to be repeated constantly

Being as how he's admitted to scrapping all that öööö he implemented in Years 1 and 2, I'd say regardless of COVID it was a complete waste of time and effort and produced öööö results. Otherwise, why would he being doing the complete 180 he claims he is on his off season and in season bullshit?

tl;dr - Using COVID as an excuse if ööööing retarded

Correct…especially since EVERY program had to deal with Covid, not just Tech’s.

I see the team quitting after Ole Miss or UCF game. Maybe they get a dead cat bounce along the way, but we're looking at 2 wins, 3 best case scenario. If we manage to give Clemson a defensive scheme they're not prepared for like last year, then maybe we pull a rabbit out of our ass and win 5. Either way, Collins is almost certainly already a lame duck and I don't see the motivation there for the players to play for the rest of the coaching staff because that would mean Key is our next HC and I just don't get the impression the team has gelled with him.

Foresee? The "hardest schedule in the country" has been rolled out for months.
That's been rolled out mostly by media, not just him. I actually dont remember him saying anything about it other than, "Its not golf where you get a handicap so the schedule just is what it is and we have to go out and try to win every game." Nobody is going to give him a pass this year because of the schedule. We can win 6 and go bowling with that schedule and that IMO is the floor for him staying.

But he didn't. He said theyve stripped all the logos and slogans to get back down to bare bones football but he hasnt changed the culture or concepts. We're still running the same defensive philosophy and nearly the same offensive philosophy just with some different formations thrown in and different QB reads. He hasn't scrapped all they implemented in year 1 and 2, that's assinine. He's made tweaks here and there to the same overall package.

Once again (you likely didn't read the post he quoted), how many other teams were barely 1 year into a major overhaul when COVID hit? It impacted us far more than likely any other P5 school.

You don’t see a group playing for respect amongst its fanbase as motivation?

That's not what he's said on the record.

Also, is the stripping the logos and slogans really a point you want to make here? I don't think it makes the point you want it to.
