Catch Me Up?

But he didn't. He said theyve stripped all the logos and slogans to get back down to bare bones football but he hasnt changed the culture or concepts. We're still running the same defensive philosophy and nearly the same offensive philosophy just with some different formations thrown in and different QB reads. He hasn't scrapped all they implemented in year 1 and 2, that's assinine. He's made tweaks here and there to the same overall package.

People hear what they want

Once again (you likely didn't read the post he quoted), how many other teams were barely 1 year into a major overhaul when COVID hit? It impacted us far more than likely any other P5 school.

You’re wasting your characters.

There was no law saying it but continuing to run it would just be punishing ourselves and put us deeper into that hole. Most everybody saw the writing on the wall and was ready to move on from the option. Rules are being made yearly that highly affect the blocking schemes used in option offenses. Even before that, the gap was growing considerably larger the last few years between GT and our opponents in terms of talent. That gap was never going to close if we continued to run the option, and it got to the point that we were being so physically out-manned by teams on our schedule that our scheme wasn't enough to overcome it. Folks can say all they want about CPJ not getting the support or the money he needed to recruit better but it's a 100% fact that several of our top recruits over the last couple cycles flat out said they would not have considered GT if we were still running the option. That is a real thing. Don't get me wrong, I loved CPJ, was thrilled when we hired him and knew he could be successful at this level, but I honestly thought that once he proved he could be successful that the recruiting would pick back up and not suffer the way it has. For as much good as he did for the program, the wins we got, big bowl wins, ACC championship, etc., it's still entirely possible to say that going to the option set us back 5+ years as a program because at some point we were going to go away from it.
There was also no law saying he could not continue to use some form of option plays, you know the way Friedgen did. Remember, there are other option plays besides the triple option, and they usually work pretty good. But he showed in the first quarter of his first game against Clemson that he would never use any form of plays that CPJ or Friedgen used. when he constantly swapped out QBs, essentially benching Tobias Oliver, the only player on the team who showed any ability of actually moving the team downfield in that game. Collins' idea of "transitioning" is the immediate dumping of what works and replacing it with plays that don't work with the available personnel. It's very much like "transitioning" from fossil fuels to green energy, when the materials, technology, and infrastructure to do so are simply not there.

Yeah, as frustrated as I’ve been with Collins (and with TStan lately), the Covid disruptions do seem to have hit us at a much worse and more impactful time than many other programs and it’s made it harder to judge their performance.

That's been rolled out mostly by media, not just him. I actually dont remember him saying anything about it other than, "Its not golf where you get a handicap so the schedule just is what it is and we have to go out and try to win every game."
Agreed. And he's also said they always want to play against the best. Good for him. I'm waiting for Todd to use it as the excuse to give him another year, because Todd's not going anywhere (as much as people are trying to convince themselves). He's giving CGC another year no matter what.

Nobody is going to give him a pass this year because of the schedule. We can win 6 and go bowling with that schedule and that IMO is the floor for him staying.

I'm not a fan of the coach or AD, but the floor isn't wins, it's performance regardless of the outcome. And FWIW, I've already said I think they win eight games this year.

Foresee? The "hardest schedule in the country" has been rolled out for months.
Yeah. Hard schedule. Will definitely be used as an excuse, should we have another terrible season. It's there, waiting to be used.

Tell me what other teams had the same thing going we did during COVID. Teams that are already established sure it's much easier to keep them going like usual. He had his first year to start implementing new concepts from the ground up: new offense, new defense, new culture, etc. First recruiting class was basically half CPJ's and half his of who he could even get that late in the process. Best DL (likely NFL ready) Big B dies unexpectedly during the offseason. I had hopes but zero expectations that first year and anybody that did was delusional. Citadel game positively sucked but it was year 1 so I just let that go. Then year 2 he finally gets his first full recruiting class, top WR recruit commits suicide days before reporting to campus, and then during spring COVID hit. We had to shut down spring practice and they didn't get any ability to practice together over summer other than what they did on their own. Fall camp 2020 was basically the first time they could all work together and that was kept in smaller groups with very limited "whole team" periods of practice. Throughout that entire season we had multiple guys each week out for COVID protocols and that meant missing practice time and games. So then by the time year 3 rolls around it's almost like starting over again. I expected results in year 3 and was disappointed but I can see giving him one more year to see if he pulls it out due to all of that, plus adding in the changes he made with the staff.

I saw flashes in year 3 that I considered improvement but we have to build on that and make it more consistent. I don't think there is any way that year 1 or year 2 teams play Clemson that close or beat UNC like we did. The OL pretty much crumbled after that and the wheels fell off the whole thing soon after. I loved Yates and he played his ass off for GT but I just don't think he was suited for what we were trying to do on offense and we had to become too one dimensional when he came in. I think if Jeff doesn't get hurt against NIU he eventually shakes off the cobwebs and we pull that one out. He was actually starting to play better on that last drive where he got hurt. I think we would have had a better shot at beating Clemson had he played, and we definitely would have had more offense in the final two games if he wasn't hurt. This year I believe we have more capable backups that will also push him in practice so he should A)get better and B)if he is still injury prone, we should be in better shape if a backup has to play.
EVERY team had issues. Some teams, more than others. GT isn't a lonely case. Don't act like we were. Don't fall into that well. I don't share the same optimism that you have. Come the end of next season, we'll see who was right and who was wrong. If GT has another bad year, you going to still be on the Collins train?? I don't care about injuries, bad calls, tough schedule....none of it. I want to see Ws. He is paid..repeat PAID, to win games. 3 wins a year, for what he makes is a pretty good deal.....(for him)....

The schedule is TStan's fault. He did not have to reschedule Ole Miss and UCF after they bailed on the original contracts. He also chose to give up a home game.

Their backup QB's score points, so I don't think we run the same offense
hell, half the people on here probably boo'd Clemson when they put their punter in 2 yrs ago and he threw a tuddy. I thought it was awesome ... and I would've let him too

Our fan base is consumed by a bunch of pussies

The sad fact is that Geoff Collins has done more for other schools recruiting and depth than he has for ours. There's not a single "touted" recruit that has come on campus and stayed. Instead they went to a school where their talent could be nurtured, developed and insure a pay day for Sundays.

85% of the jerkoffs on here are like "F-- Gibbs" and why? Because he's smarter than they are at 19? Because he saw a sinking ship and dove off to swim to shore? What about Ivey? or his parents dealing with the obnoxious dbags on here that boo their son instead of the staff.

Ibeeballin is the perfect example of a Collins blow hard and Go Ga Tech has a Christmas wish list with Collins remaining he's stamped for Santa.

We're a joke and the fact remains until a complete overhaul is done, we'll remain one.

Time to call the pot exactly what it is. And the fans that don't aren't fans. They're astronauts somehow surviving on Pluto

And some of those "fans" can't come up with anything else other than personal attacks on those who realize the facts.

Oh don't I know it. They'd rather say "your mama" over a keyboard than pad up.... I'd guarantee it.
There's a lot I don't know, but what I do know is light years far and away from their current comprehension.

Like a bunch of Jamie Newberg fanboys that suck on a Colin Cowherd Mushroom Tip Sippy Cup

That’s speculation and last year was last year. I, for one, am excited that some of those personalities are gone
They're called ballplayers....but you wouldn't know as a stand in for Rosie O'Donnell in A League of Their Own
