Catchall Deion Sanders Thread

On the 247 portal tracker

in the last 9 days they have had 28 players enter the portal. 14 today.

With 3 transferring in

wow.
So were they roster heavy or is this the "this is a train wreck. I'm outta here"?

On3 has Colorado ranked #1 in terms of relative improvement to it's own roster. (This ranking isn't against other schools, it is just a metric of how much internal improvement the school has gained through the transfer portal as determined by On3's ranking algorithm)

That said, according to that link, Colorado has lost 42 players and gained 28 in the portal.

That is almost unbelievable. That has to be a record. No other school on that list is even close to those numbers. That is like turning over nearly half your roster through the portal. The assumption is Colorado is trading for "better" players though I think the is a dubious assumption given that many of these transfers have a wide variety of reasons for leaving that aren't all known.

Still, that is an absolutely staggering amount of turnover and I would assume there is even more to come.

Is there not a cap on any of this? What to prevent him from running off the rest of the team? I would not feel good about any of this if I were a Buffs fan or alumni. It's really rather embarrassing that your new coach has run off half the team.

It was a train wreck already. This is the busted ass fenders and body parts taking themselves to the junkyard.

It's a train wreck, but it's more of a planned demolition. After watching the spring game it should be evident to everyone how undersized this team is. The roster is not Power 5 conference caliber by a long shot. I don't know how a major conference program let it get that bad.

It is now evident Deions game plan is to flip as much of the entire roster as he can with transfers. This is the inevitable outcome of dramatic rule changes of the portal being used in a way they were likely never intended. He is essentially going to the "free market" and buying the best available he can convince to join the "Prime Time" cult in Colorado. It's now a program of mercenaries.

It remains to be seen if it will work. I think it's going to be a disaster year 1 regardless and that will make it difficult going forward. I don't know what the make up of the transfers in and out are but I would guess many of those leaving are Colorado kids and many of those transferring in have no roots whatsoever in Colorado. Can you run a program on out of state transfers year in and year out? That seems to be the plan. Is that what the University of Colorado wants?

Sign of the times I guess.

He doesn't realize this isn't the NFL, or even the HBCU league for that matter. As we saw from the clown era here, you get obliterated in season one and losing becomes a habit that's hard to break out of. All of these "high energy" guys eventually have to coach and the smack talk and gimmicks don't work. Look at that goofball at Indiana, Collins here, and so on. To reply to Buzzila, in my opinion no, you cannot run a program on transfers consistently. There is a reason why players are in the portal to begin with. A few have legit reasons but that's not most.

Remind me: there are no limits on the number of transfers in? So technically you could bring in 85?

And by the way, for any of those thinking that Prime Time would've worked at Georgia Tech, you need only to see how he's going about it at Colorado to realize that would have never worked. Building and maintaining a program on the back of the transfer portal would never get off the ground with the academic requirements at Tech. Not only would you have to sell transfers on the Prime Time cult koolaid but you have to find enough of them that can matriculate through Tech. I'm guessing that is a very small overlap in the Venn diagram.

It would appear Colorado has sold it's soul and is all in for semi-pro football. They should just change the helmet logo to read "PRIME". Paint an image of Deion in a cowboy hat on midfield. Run out "Prime Time" dancers instead of Ralphie.

I guess this is what the death of "amateur" athletics looks like. Pitiful.

Essentially, kind of, the way Snyder ran Kansas State, only there was a Juco level in the mix, since there was no portal.

Colorado better have a whole hell of a lot of money. I know they have some pretty rich people in Colorado. Maybe they have a few billionaires that can pony up. I just don't see them getting the players he thinks he can get. USC just got a DL from UGAg because, USC. They are rich and I think Lincoln Riley has righted that ship.

Pics of Prime Time dancers?

I didn't realize they got rid of the 25 recruit limit for the 23 and 24 seasons. Only cap is at 85.
