Catchall Deion Sanders Thread

just dont understand how anyone could not want the hype for their own program

Everyone wants the hype. It comes down to whether they expect results to follow.

If you told people they could have Prime and he would bring the hype and consistent bowls with championships upside, the vast majority of fans would say yes in a heartbeat.

But if you told people they could have Prime and he would bring the hype but he would never win more than three games in a season and there would be a bunch of ugly stories, the vast majority would say no.

So it comes down to whether you think he can deliver results, and obviously there's a lot of strong opinions on both sides.

To me hype = money = NIL = players

Kirby aint winning championships on his coaching prowess

It also comes down to just suffering through 4 years of all hype and no substance. If we were presented the opportunity to hire Deion as soon as CPJ retired, we would probably have a TON of folks signing up for that, even without knowing what kind of results would follow.

Has colorado figured out how to pay Deion yet?

is this sarcasm? they had 45,000 at the spring game and already sold out their season tickets for next year.. they are already printing money

I haven't seen their financial breakdown, but they said they were in debt and couldn't afford his salary

$5.5M per year, $5M for staff per year, so basically $11M for staff. I'm going to be extremely generous here with pricing so this is likely a lowball number. CU stadium holds 54k. They are allotting 12k for students (not sure if student tickets are free but for this we will assume they are). That leaves 42k seats. We'll say they save 5k allotment for visitors and single game ticket sales, so assume only 37k season tickets sold. At an average $75 per ticket for 6 home games this season, that is $16.65M in revenue on season tickets alone. Not counting if students pay any. Not counting visitor and single game tickets. Not counting any food/beverage/merchandise sales. So salaries are paid with $5M+ on top for operating expenses. Everything else is making money.

Any ideas on what their operating expenses might be? It seems like the most expensive parts are paying off new facility, followed by coaches, but that could just be a bias I've acquired from the headlines.

We'd have to get the books from them to really analyze but Id also guess all advertising revenue went up significantly as well. All of the official "XYZ" of the Colorado Buffaloes and all of the in stadium advertising is going to cost more

No clue. Just throwing some numbers out there.

well they do have natural grass so theres that

You said take a gamble and if it blows up in your face then hire "techman" to get us back to a respectable record, right?

Well, with Collins we hired an unproven name who talked a big game and promised to completely change the way we did things. To me, that's a gamble. You call it a flier, but I'm not sure I see the difference -- in fact, I would say a flier is a type of gamble.

Regardless of the exact word used, I think we can all agree it was a risky hire that blew up in our faces. So based on what you said, now is the time to hire someone to get us back to respectable.

Otherwise you're not saying, "Take a gamble and if it blows up in your face you can always make a safe hire to get back to respectable", you're saying, "Take a gamble and if it blows up in your face double down with an even more expensive gamble."
All of this is why Key was the right move at this time.

The issue with the CGC risk wasn’t that it failed. That’s the nature of taking bigger risks. The issue was that our AD failed to cover his downside in the contract structure and now our athletic department is on food stamps. He bought the nonsense about needing a seven year guaranteed contract for a rebuild and we will pay the price for years to come. The reason you see pics of Collins out watching peewee football games these days is because GT incentivized him to not work.

Hype opens doors. The product is what future sales will depend on. When this year's product takes a dump on the field bigger than anything Ralphie could hope to drop, then take a look at the numbers and see how everyone is feeling about the hype.

He’s got plenty of money and he is not good at his chosen profession, so I don’t blame him I would be sitting around watching peewee football also.
