CFP is now as big of a joke as the BCS was

Needs to go to 8 teams. All 5 P5 champs, plus 3 at large. Could even guarantee the highest ranked non-P5 conference champ gets in, plus 2 at large.

Bama vs UGA national championship would be up there with the Bama v LSU snoozer several years back. No one wants that.
Agree with this whole heartedly

If the premise is to take the conference champion why not SoCal? They had the same record as Ohio State and were conference champs.
The black mark against USC was them getting bombed by ND. Looked bad at the time and looks even worse now that we know ND was a fraud.

Bama will be in every year. They have to lose at least twice to not make it and then they could still make it if they win the SEC.

Herbstreit put Bama in his 4 last night after the ACC championship over Ohio St. I didn't see what happened today. Believe he moved from Columbus several years ago because local fans did not like his comments. He is one of the better TV folks to me.

Alabama is not at full strength relative to recent years. Clemson vs. Oklahoma for the championship. Go you fightin’ Dabos.

This is probably one of weakest Bama teams in about 7 or eight years; still a very good team but not dominating like in years past. The injuries have hurt Bama this year, they don't have the dominant running back like they've had in Derrick Henry/Mark Ingram/Eddie Lacy/Richardson/Yeldon/etc...; the shuffling of assistance coaches, particularly coordinators, have combined to make this a down year for Bama. Couple that with the SEC being down and you have a hard time making a viable argument to 2 SEC teams being in the playoff at the exclusion of other P5 conferences. Some say you don't want a potential 2 loss champion; so do you want national champion who couldn't win their conference, division, or even in-state rivalry game? Bama could end up as the "National Champion" after they couldn't even win their own state.

Best case scenario is that both UGA and Bama lose in the first round of playoffs, the SEC has a losing bowl record; and the playoff committee selection of 2 SEC frauds is exposed.

...and if Ohio state had backdoored in again this year everyone would be saying the same thing about them.

Like I said I'm at least relieved the committee was consistent this year with the way they treated Ohio State last year.

Teams that win their conference championship don't backdoor in; they play in. Teams that don't even play for their conference championship backdoor in.

I get it, ESPN has a huge investment in SEC football so it has to continue to hold it up as a super conference.

As far as I’m concerned, they should just let Herbstreit pick the four teams every year. I think he’s great.

One more thing, this is significantly different than letting Ohio State backdoor in last year. The Big 10 did not get two teams last year, conference champion PSU got screwed like a little boy under Sandusky's supervision. To make this like last year's Ohio State debacle UGA would need to be sent toking.

Hypothetically, if we still had the BCS, Clemson would undoubtedly be #1. Who would have been #2? Oklahoma?

In that case... BRING BACK THE BCS

I don't give a shit who wins as long as Oklahoma is in the finals. I have a gallon of golden grain on stand by. Did you guys know this shit can explode?

What's funny is when they make it a six team playoff people will bitch just as hard about 6th and 7th as they have about 2-3, 4-5. The more I look at it, Bama probably deserves it. The whole sub-conference thing is a little overrated imo.

Right. Both are outside looking in. I HATE that Bama is in the CFP but looking at it objectively, they really do have a better body of work than USC or tOSU.

Tough break for Auburn. Much harder schedule than Bama and a better performance. But those are the breaks.

I think most (not all) would agree that #5 has a lot less to complain about than #3 did back under the BCS.

Hell, people still bitch about #69 (?) in the basketball tournament, but no one would try to compare their plight to that of the first football team out.

Why do you think Bama probably deserves it? make the case
