CGC is a marketing genius

Geoff is a walking 90s teen movie character trope. He's the nerdy white guy who tries so hard to fit in and be cool it's cringeworthy. We basically hired Seth Green to be our head coach.

Ed Sawyer on left.

Well Mr. Belvedere retired and Morgan Freeman ain’t leaving his current job. Seth Green it is.

Ed is riding a sustained wave of butthurt because his gimmick offense got taken away. Said gimmick was cool to him because it went against the grain. The Folks Against Geoff will continue this child like screeching because they think their toy got taken away.

Yep - Scheme First, School Second.

I think it's mostly this, and also this infatuation with the prototypical "old school" coach who is a hardass curmudgeon. CGC obviously doesn't fit that mold, and that rubs people like Ed the wrong way. Yet he fails to see or fails to care that for much of the fan base and for many recruits, this a welcomed change.

He's created a bond in a very short time with the players. This is great to see! I hope we can keep the fire burning.

He'll keep the fire burning.

Have you seen the guys he recruited or worked with the other two times he was here come out of the woodwork to be a part of things now? That's a long-term connection, particularly when you remember he was not here very long either time.

The only delay in getting a five star to transfer here was Collins saying he was wanted here. That's a connection that kept burning.

Rumor is that he could have had multiple Temple recruits follow him here, but did not think that was right.

What makes his shtick different from some other coaches is he preaches long-term connection. He still puts Temple stuff on his twitter, cuz he is still connected to those guys. It is all very powerful.

I guess you saw where I was coyly going with that. Often times, things that burn hot run out of fuel quickly. But I'm already convinced of several things: 1) CGC is not fake, 2) he really cares about the players, and as a result 3) players respond to him. Those things are all fuel for the juice fire.

Perhaps the only thing that can really throw cold water on us is actually going out and not being very good on the football field. Then you could lose trust and your message might get tuned out. However, that's true of any coach and is not something specific to CGC or other high energy coaches.

I don't know if there is a sporting event I could possibly care less about than the Masters. Cheesy as hell.
