a few minutes ago. Perhaps Gailey gets this way often but I had never heard him this animated I don't think. They have taken some shots at him today prior to the call and really pushed him on lack of QB development.

after the heated exchange, wolberton I think asked him what qualities he thought made a great QB. He said first "accuracy" and then after silence he said "decision-making." it was rather odd because i would have guessed he would say leadership since QB accuracy has never been very good here under him.

They seemingly backed him in a corner. He had just gotten really defensive about QB development and said they are just looking at stats but that they didn't see how much RB developed during his 4 years. Then right after that he says the greatest asset a QB can have is accuracy.

Anyway, maybe he was having a bad day but I think he is hearing the criticism coming his way from more than one source based on his defensive position this afternoon.

Usually the media are pretty cordial towards coaches, strange.

chernoff has always seemed to dislike Gailey. He says he likes him personally but I don't really believe him in my gut. that being said, I respect him for asking tough questions. granted, Gailey thought he was an idiot who just looks at stats, doesn't see practices, etc.

overall this particular show probably likes GT as much as any sports talk show in ATL.

Not more than the RWSR on WREK!

For those of you who want to listen. It's brutal when he tries to defend reggie and he attacks the interviewer.

chan is not media savy and isn't the guy we need at tech in this regard if we plan on expanding the fanbase.

He comes off argumentative and not a leader.

A leader would have acknowledged statistics that stare you in the face RE: RBall; and said we are doing the most we can to improve that area of the team, hence why we hired Bond. A leader would have said, reggie didn't improve statistically quite like we would have hoped, but was the best option on the team and generally we won with him; but certainly I need to do better to get where we need to be. A leader would recognize his own deficiencies and acknowledge they need work...not defend them blindly.

Chernoff is a Roostersmoker, and I'm surprised anyone agrees to be interviewed by him. All he does is fish for some way to get the interviewee's goat in the hopes of getting a good sound byte. Clearly my least favorite 'personality' on 790 by about ten miles. Dude's just a dick.

maybe, but every one of his questions were LEGIT and dead on. What was pathetic was the responses a 55 year old coach who has been in this business that long should know how to handle questions. These were not unreasonable questions, they are the same ones we all have...and gailey couldn't handle it.

Its not like Matt said you mom is a whore...he asked him why QB play has been so poor the last 6 years. HE IS RIGHT. WHY HAS IT? Why do we only have 2 TD passing in 8 games? These are legit concerns and questions.

I know plenty of people on this board and others who would have loved to ask him the same questions. Maybe they should call him during his call in show. Oh wait...

Hahaha. Just got done listening to it.

Chan, to Chernoff:
Oh, because I said something that's the truth, now we're going to change the subject?
I felt Chan did as best as he could to field that question. The question backs him up to the wall no matter what, his only other option was to say "next question please."

There was a point in the interview where it seemed like the 790 guys were trying to provide a graceful exit to the QB conversation and Gailey snapped back with "now I bring up the truth and you want to change the subject" [paraphrasing]. At that point, the tone of the interview seemed to change in a bad way.

I thought Gailey answered the "what do you look for in a QB" question decisively despite what some other posters have said. The answer does not seem consistent with some of his other decisions, but I did not hear any hesitation.

Great, another topic to jump and pound on Chan, Y'all go get'em boys!

Since gtkyle likes to post a lot here's an assignment, go find a topic everyday that makes Chan look bad and then lets see how many posts we can kick him every day!

Personally I think Chan is gone at the end of the year but continually piling on is getting rediculous to me.

Bash away!

'ppreciate your blessing.

what annoyed me the most about the interview was CHan's inability to convince anyone that the UGA game is a bigger deal than he thinks it is... he said its big because "its on our schedule"

Give me a break. is that how you would want your coach to respond to questions? Being argumentative? Please...that was a pathetic set of responses; he didn't represent himself nor his job with any bit of sense. Even if chernoff was being classless as you say...Chan should have been better at responding.

I know what he meant to say, he just didn't say it right. He should have phrased his answer like this:

In order for the UGA game to be bigger than any other, the other games would have to be less big, and Tech isn't in a position as a football program to sleep through any game.

...and he should have left it at that. The Buzzoffers are going to have a field day with his response. I felt that was the one question where he didn't quite phrase his response in a way that's impermeable to criticism. That question may well be his "9 wins per year" Dave Braine moment.

I thought that was ridiculous as well. He can try to sell that if he wants, but not many GT fans are buying. Why does he claim then that beating UGA is one of the 3 or so specific goals every season? Can't have it both ways.

Piling on would be bashing Chan AFTER he left GT. He is still at GT and a representative, hasn't been fired, making him fair game in critiquing the job he is doing and actions he takes.

This latest set of actions DEFINITELY elicits response. Some of the priors maybe not....if there is every a thread that is valid to slamming him...its this one..
