Coaches Salaries

Hell, I think NC State beat us one year based on having like 3 good offensive plays all damn game. Not sure if it was the 2005 - maddest I have ever been at a GT game - or not.
Dammit, I looked it up. That was the damn game. A 40 yard TD pass, an 80 yard TD pass, a FG, and that damn pick in the endzone when we threw the ball across the middle instead of just handing it to PJ Daniels and winning the ballgame. NC State, other than those two passes, had 132 in the air and 56 yards rushing total. We had 164 rushing and 279 passing and looked like the much better team.

Great. Now I'm mad again.

Quick. Switch your thoughts to Miracle on Techwood!

What has Cutcliffe done that has you so enamored? Most on this board said we should have blown out Duke because they are so bad. I’ll take the coach that won the game.
He took Duke to the ACC Championship game. Do you think CGC will?

This could be the most ridiculous post of the year. We’re sitting at tied for third in the coastal and yet you think CGC deserves to be paid less than the 6 teams we currently have a better record than?
No. These fonts pump out more ridiculous posts as naturally as they breathe.

Poor comparison. A better comparison is I come into a company making less than everyone else. I outperform them on the metric the company used to determine performance (in the case of college football, that is wins). At that point, the company can continue to pay me based on lower expectations or they can raise my pay to surpass those that I’m outperforming. If they continue to pay me based on lower expectations, I will eventually leave and they can replace me with someone who will perform at their lower expectations.
No that's really not good at all. You're going to say GT is outperforming all of these other schools simply based on this years record with no regard to the overall performance? It doesn't work that way. You can be a good employee and 1 crappy week at work doesn't make you a bad employee. Alternatively, you can be a crappy employee and 1 good week at work doesn't suddenly make you a good employee. When you look at winning percentage headed into 2021, CGC was 13/14 of ACC coaches. He is not underpaid by any metric. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nca...-brown-dave-doeren/17kj32wsp05s31k2ujnmrzrewo

And Clemson could have lost to us and if we get a foot down we beat NIU and if the review goes our way we beat NIU and hell.....buncha öööö goes on during the season.
Yes but that wasn't the context, the point is that if you actually watch the games you cannot tell me that CGC is one of the better coaches in this league. The NIU game shouldn't have been close. Clemson is surprisingly bad this year. The out-of-nowhere wins against Miami and FSU just add to the fact this coach is not a great coach but a salesman.

Disagree on this. I'll give you southeast and mid-atlantic brand. National, no.
Wake is 28th in national university rankings from US NewsWR, tied with UNC, NYU. Just very slightly below UVA, Carnegie Mellon and Michigan. I’d call that lower tier 1, decent solid national brand. Not at level of Duke, Ivies, Stanford, Hopkins, etc of course.

GT is 38th in same, although what’s frustrating about GT rankings is we know we are upper tier 1 in engineering but truthfully tier 2 in about everything else which always impacts overall university ranking.

Absolutely that’s what I’m saying. Even at #13 CGC would be outperforming his salary. But he’s not the 13th best coach. Even beyond just win-loss metrics, CGC is outperforming the other coaches. What’s our recruiting ranked again?

And that link is garbage. Even the authors admit they’re just making up the #3-11 rankings. You really think Manny Diaz is the #4 best coach in the ACC? Share another made up link with us please.

You've completely lost me. How is having the 13th best winning percentage out of 14 coaches considered "outperforming?" And really you're going to bring up recruiting rankings as a measure of success? Come on... That's athens talk...

I think this is the one. This is the thread where all these moronic, hollow, sardonic lukewarm takes and half-assed comparative """"analysis"""""""""" will finally answer the burning question of whether everything is going to be okay.

Then we can just fire our head coach every 3 years to placate the dumbasses on the board who *think* they know what it takes to make GT successful.

Let me ask this simply for you. If you are projected to finish a race 14th but you finish 13th, have you outperformed expectations?

You guys are overlooking the most glaring number on there. Jimbo Fisher’s buyout. Holy öööö!

GT - you can sell Atlanta, program history, and the GT degree to recruits
Duke - you can sell the Duke degree to recruits
WF - :dunno:

In fairness, you can sell the Wake degree also,a lot of doctors and lawyers come out of there
