The way to handle this is to go over there and pretend to be a huge fan who somehow missed the news that he was fired, start talking about how your rooting for him this season that this will be better than the last one you really like the way he's got the program headed etc etc, on the one hand playing to his ego on the other hand forcing him to say out loud that he's no longer with the team, that's how you humiliate the guy because if you go direct you'll just get stonewalled and he'll get defensive, you want the cut to be as deep as possible which is going to require some subterfuge on the front end.
