Collins report card

This is interesting. First you argue "18 y/ol kid" blah blah blah; but when GoldZ points out they aren't 18 y/o kids; you switch arguments to how many games played under this system. Is the problem kids vs men or not?
Your confusion is on you. The team has one lineman that is a true freshman. The team has 17 other players that are not on the OL. Because I'm not aware that the big penalty problem was the four non-true freshmen OLmen, I'm asking where the comment on the OL came from. See?

Again, I guess I need to spell shit out for imbeciles. Nobody is saying there is one and only one reason for every penalty. Not youth, not discipline, coaching, covid, inexperience, or whatever. There are many contributing factors obviously. A huge ööööing one is youth. Inexperience is also a big factor but that affects both youth and upperclassmen. Of course youth have a double whammy having both.

No one is confused. You are inconsistent in your argument.

Not really nc, they are all apples because they are all football players. Football players at the D-1 level respond quickly to technique changes and coaching. Have always appreciated and enjoyed your posts, but imo you are simply overrating, like a few others here, the transition. It's nowhere near the greatest in the history of CFB. It (again) IS a considerable challenge on both LOS. Hence the hyperbole references by myself and others.
Not really what? Are you saying what I was told by OL in the 70s wasn’t true or are you saying it was but doesn’t matter. Look, I don’t know about greatest anything in history, but I do know what I was told back then and I also know what my brother who played OL and coached HS at the top level in NC for 30+ years has told me. The fact is our guys haven’t picked it up that quickly so either Key can’t coach, they suck or it’s a bigger transition than you think.

Collins gets a B from me simply because he brought us Gibbs. Most electric player as a freshmen I’ve seen since Calvin.

How much did Key have to undo with Defoor, Johnson, Williams, Southers, and our TE from UConn? And yes, I believe Key is a good coach. Do you honestly believe Kent Hill couldn't quickly convert from CPJ's blocking style to Key's ? How quickly did Shaquille Mason convert with the Patriots ?

So those two were average college linemen? I noticed you didn’t answer my question. Seems there are 3 possible answers to the question.

If this is a pass/fail course, I’d definitely say Collins passed. We were picked to finish dead last in the ACC, we didn’t. We were outmatched in many games, but our team never quit. Although we don’t have all the pieces in place yet, I saw some improvement in many facets of our team Throughout the year.

As some said, we have excitement around the program we haven’t had in years and some really talented players want to come here. Were there some suspect coaching decisions this year? Of course there were and some undisciplined mistakes, but I think those are easily correctable. Getting the talent here is step one and we have some help on the way.

I too would love to turn the switch on to be all of a sudden a good football team, but unfortunately we have to continue to turnover the team through recruiting to get us there. I like the direction we are pointing, just need to continue to make positive steps forward!
if we're picked last and he finishes 3-9 for the next six years, i guess that's also six years of success?

If we were picked last for the next six years, we obviously failed at recruiting and making progress in developing those players. Our AD would have failed us as well - if those expectations and the media speculation for our team didn’t get better year after year to an acceptable level and he kept the same coach,

This year really opened my eyes on how many unrealistic and out of touch Tech fans there really are. CGC had 1 of his own recruiting classes and 1 he inherited that was mostly baked, I am by no means a CGC lover or a CPJ hater, I just love my Tech football team and want to see us play good football again with a competitive team.

I’m new to this board because I thought some of the other boards were too pessimistic and had out of touch expectations for our sports. We must have some pretty miserable people as alumni, because I think we have a positive direction for the football program and I am excited about this new incoming class to help supplement the talent we have. I’m glad I’m not a huge basketball fan, because if Tech fans are this critical in trying to turn the football team in year 2, how upset are they in year 17 of rebuilding the basketball team??

We won't be picked last with the roster he is putting together.

Last year was year zero and this year, we had no spring and only a few weeks to prep a freshman heavy team. I think we would have won 5 or 6 if this year was in any way normal. As it was, zero to two wins was a plausible worst case for both years.

Buffalo, to be fair, a "report card" is 100% backward looking while you are talking about the future. It is apples and oranges. Any team on the rise is going to have a disconnect between an honest report card and the outlook.

Understood, that is why I gave CGC a Passing grade for this past year. I was responding back to Moochie who was speculating us being possibly picked last for the next 6 years - which is a probably very unlikely possibility

apologist and an excuse. it was the same world for everyone. losers use the covid excuse. winners don't mention it.

Bet you were not interested in the "excuses" to explain why Bobby Ross could not win an ACC game here.

Different things affect different teams in different situations. It is laughable that you think an experienced team under the same coach and system is exactly the same as a young and transition team.

We “looked” more like a football team this year compared to last season when the ESPN announcers were openly mocking us for being so small on national television.

But if you have eyeballs that work and half a brain...you should be able to “look” at some of our OL and know deep down they are not legit starting P5 material. It’s just a fact. I’m not going to bash any one of them individually but good Lord...some of y’all need to turn your ööööing brains on.

Merry Christmas

At least that phase is behind us.

I think we will have a pretty good offensive line next year, especially if we get in spring practice.
