Three fumbles and two öööö ups on fourth down. We had a bad day and still won. Lots of teams would have ended up losing with that shit going down. Thankfully, our horrible ass coach didn’t let that happen.

No, the point is that fumbling is not randomly distributed among teams (even pro rata per rush). Some teams are better at it and some are worse. If we're among the worst (as it feels like we are, admittedly I should bring some stats to this knife fight), then it's his job to fix that problem.

Or maybe calculus makes us fumble. It seems to explain all our failings.
 
Not going for the FG at the end of the half, stroke of genius. Those 3 points could have made a real difference, especially if we didn’t get the two ints at the end. Just makes no sense. That’s poor coaching decision any way you spin it.

Every kid that plays football can tell you HOW to carry the football so that it can’t be ripped from you. And yet there are fumbles.

Like golf, players get bad habits and away from fundamentals. Coaches job is to correct this. I disagree here @coit . Paul said it himself how it happens with a certain position group.

I can’t tell if you are trying to troll here or you really don’t get it. Lemme try again.

Let’s say I hate you to sharpen pencils. The expectation is that you break 1 out of every 200 pencils. I show you training videos on how to sharpen the pencils without breaking them. I show you hand on how to sharpen pencils.

Then you sharpen pencils. You break one 1 pencil for every 50. I show you again and again how to sharpen them. Yet you continue to break 1 in 50.

I’d fire you, but i don’t have anyone else to sharpen the pencils.

What should I do with you? Show you how to sharpen them again because after the 10th time it will help?

I’ve been thinking that in close games we are probably winning like 75 percent with one or less fumbles and losing like 80 percent with two or more. They come in threes in the worst parts of the game. It’s systemic and may be part of option football in a unique way.

You should show me, via some different pedagogical technique, how to sharpen them. It's *your job* to figure out what I'm missing and correct it. Throwing up your hands because you've tried all the techniques that you know of, or that you think *ought* to be sufficient, is an abdication of your duty. Unless there's some hidden variable between the kind of player we recruit and the tendency to fumble, concluding that we've done all we can do is obviously wrong.
