Dan Mullen

Mullen is a weirdo and we have enough of those at Tech. There are younger offensive minded candidates out there if we go that route.
The good thing is our new AD comes from the SEC, so he probably knows a good bit about Mullen or has some really good sources.

This is just speculation. But, when Pres Cabrera and AD Batt had their first joint press conference, they were given several opportunities to say something positive about Coach Key. I expected them to say he was doing a great job and would be considered in the coaching search. When they didn't, I told my wife that I thought they had already picked our next coach. I am probably wrong, but that's what I thought. I like Coach Key a lot, but I also trust Pres Cabrera and AD Batt a lot. I wondered about this again when I heard about the new partnership between the Tech Foundation and the GTAA. But, as I said, I'm probably wrong.

Cabrera said something about J Batt spending all week with Mark Teixeira. Maybe Teixeira already picked a coach for us.

He missed on a QB at Florida that cost him his job. Otherwise they were pretty solid.

If he can’t win at Florida, he sure as heck is not going to be able to win at Georgia Tech.

Have you actually looked at his time at UF? He took over a team that was 4-7. His first year they were 10-3 followed by 11-2 and 8-4. Once they lost Trask they didn’t have another option at QB imo. Now they did struggle defensively toward the end of his tenure but I haven’t dug into that. I’m not advocating for him but he wouldn’t be a bad hire. He’s had proven success.

I'd be fine with Mullen given what I know about him. (Not to say he's my pick or that I have a pick.) To my memory Mississippi State wasn't that good when he took over, and it doesn't have the advantages of other SEC schools.

He got shredded by Paul Johnson, but I think Mississippi State had some seasons of really staunch defense.

Looked closer. Mullen's resume is outstanding. Big name in college football. Demonstrated recruiter, winner at a non-factory. No NCAA scandals, experience in the South. Only 50 years old. It looks like he was a victim at Florida of crazy expectations. I'd take him if he'd take us!

One more thing, he was classy about getting beaten by us at the Orange Bowl, never said the offense was crooked or anything.

Please just let Mullen be and quit trying to deductively reason why he would be a good candidate at GT.

You obviously missed the fact that he was trying to get an NFL job during his disaster of a 2021 season. Add in the fact that he kept a horrible DC in Grantham around is also an issue. Mullen had 1 Top 25 recruiting class at MSU. So he is not a proven recruiter. UF just being UF is a guaranteed Top 25 class annually. Ron Zook was an elite recruiter while at UF. Mullen does not like to recruit. That has been well documented by now by UF Mods and recruiting analysts.

So Mullen had 1 Top 25 class at MSU that can take any player without limitations, including JUCO players. The remainder were in the mid 30’s-40’s. The Pirate has been at MSU for 3 classes 26 (2020), 26 (2021), 25 (2022).

So you think going to a school with the academic restrictions of GT, along with the competition for in-state talent by all the major programs in the surrounding states that he will get anything other than the Top 40-50 range annually? I just don’t think he’s a fit for GT’s limitations.

Well I am assuming Todd Grantham on YouTube giving choking signs to Florida players wasn’t a good look when Mullen was kicked out of Gainesville. Mullen failed because he believed in himself and didn’t understand history matters.

See I disagree with you there. At UF there are two other in state schools that are much more attractive as far as campus life goes. You also have to compete on an SEC schedule which is obviously deeper than an ACC one.
