Defense is an embarrassment

Tackling was öööö, but we did make stops during 2nd half to allow us to pull within 7. Then the wheels fell off and I think we just let up in defeat. Kiffin is an asshole. It was 24-17 with like 7 mins left in the game.

We suck on defense because all our good players from that side left thanks to Clown.

Zamari Walton
Akelo Stone
Jordan Dominick
Jared Ivey

Losing Charlie Thomas, Ace Eley, and Deion White to the NFL just made these transfers all the more glaring.

I don’t disagree he is an ass but he really didn’t seem to be running up the score. At that point he wants to put the game out of reach and begin prepping for Alabama. Some of their points were simply just bad playing by GT.

Also Chico Bennett.

We easily left 14 points on the field, arguably more, but we dropped two TD passes. I think on one, we ultimately kicked a FG, so that makes it 11 points. So then, that makes the final score 48-34. Still, probably go for two-point conversion and miss. That's likely the final score, a 2-TD win, and a pretty accurate difference between the two programs. I don't feel any better about that than the score as it was. The D has got to step up if we're going to win 6 games and return to a bowl. I think they will.

Bear in mind that after 3 games, Louisville is #9 and Ole Miss #11 in total offense. We've played two pretty darn good offensive teams. By comparison, GA Tech is #14, WFU #45, BGSU #93, Miami #15, BC #69, UNC #19, UVA #113, Clem #20, Syracuse #5, and UGAg #25. It's early, and these will certainly change, but the D will have to improve to have a chance to 5 more.

Yeah, out of the 133 teams that have played 2 FBS opponents, we have performed below 125+ of them. It's only two datapoints, but they are really bad data points considering Louisville is not a great team.
You don’t know how good Louisville is. They will be ranked next week.

I struggle to call a team good when they only beat Indiana 21-14. It's possible they had a bad game and are truly world beaters who haven't played a good game yet. Thankfully there are nine more games left in the season for it to all play out.

Kiffy had the backups in for at least the last TD. Of course, when your backup quarterback started at Oklahoma State, your 2s just might be better than other people's 1s.

Or Jared Ivey. Kind of makes me wonder what the point is to trying to recruit DL from high school. You will get one decent year out of them at most before some rich program swoops in to grab em. If you even get that decent year; didn't Stone get grabbed just for having a really good Spring game?
The problem with Ivey was there were some GT fans who decided being douchebags to Ivey's mom on Twitter was a good move. She was pretty active and took a lot of shots that should have been directed at Collins. When Ivey left, I even thought "I don't blame him. Assholes"

Plummer wasn't terribly impressive against us and hasn't really played all that great since, either. Louisville could stand to see what else they have at that spot. Because with Plummer, I don't see them reeling off a 9-plus win season.

If we get to play the what if game when it comes to dropped catches, Ole Miss gets to play it too. And I wonder what opportunities they didn't capitalize on they wish they got a mulligan on.
In the end, the better team won. Right now, they are better than us. We played well in spots and certainly this game had interest in the fourth quarter it didn't have a year ago. But there are things Ole Miss probably wishes it could have done better or different so that it wasn't a one-score game midway through the fourth.

We’ve all discussed that we lost most of our starters from last year to the portal, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard WHY that occurred, given that Thacker stayed on.

These guys that are starting for other teams, why did they leave? Did they think that Thacker was likely to get the axe at some point?
maybe they left because thacker was retained

Likely the best way to leave it is "it was a one-score game" midway through the 4th quarter.

If you had told me we held Ole Miss to 10 first-half points, I would have said, "Did Kiffin forget about the game and just go to Hooters?"
And if you had told me Ole Miss held us to 3 first-half points, I would have said, "Fellas, over here, field's over here. Way past time to leave The Grove."

Before he left she did tell me that very thing at a home game. How fans can be turds. At the end of the day they are still someone's kid. There are parents (for better or for worse) that cruise and even take part on message boards. Some you know, and some you don't. Many lurk.

I remember this. I think it started when she waded into a Collins bitch fest with a “support the players” plea and something that some people took as “any criticism of Collins was a criticism of her kid so therefore shut up.” And it became exactly that and was extremely unfortunate. I don’t think she meant what some people read into her comments and she certainly didn’t deserve what came back.

But I can also guarantee that it’s worse with an SEC fan base, particularly one from Mississippi.

Parents have always roamed these boards. Most I have met understand the nature of social media and that it is certainly no worse at Tech than what happens in regard to other schools' programs.

I don’t believe that any more. GT social media fans are awful. We are likely nicer in person but don’t hold back on social media. It is sad. I wish those fans were passionate enough to show up in the stadium but they seem to enjoy bitching online more.

She didn't. I followed her at the time, no comments, and pretty much all she wanted was for us to support the players. It descended into chaos. Ivey cut bait and left.
