Of course they have tutors, but I didn't dispute that. They're arguing that they are just passed automatically because they're football players, which is not true.

Lets be fair...you never went to Georgia Tech or been inside the GTAA...so you are not in a great position to say that it happens everywhere...even GT.

I can tell you first hand...being in the AA and graduating from GT....that the GT professors could not give a rat's rear about athletes. Most do not even know when a game is taking place...if they do know someone is an athlete it almost works against you. The prof's there are there for grant money and research. They actually even do very little teaching...you are really on your own to learn the material...or seek out counselors/tutors/prior students for help.

I can also tell you the GTAA tutors are wonderful..extremely smart people who want to be helpful. However..they also place a huge emphasis on the sanctity of the academic environment and know where the line is to not cross.

In summary....the professors are not passing anyone for any reason other than the grade they achieve...whether athlete, academic scholar, student govt, etc. The prof's really just want to get back to the "lab".

GT athletes receive lots of additional help to pass their classes, but they pass their classes on their own merit.

Gtman's about to get muted if he says one more dumb thing. I laughed out loud at him challenging whether refrigeratormover knows anything about what advantages student athletes may or may not get at Tech. Hooo-nelly that was funny.

AMEN.

Hiver, you are correct, in over 50 years of attending Tech games I have met exactly one prof at a game, he happened to sit beside me. At that he was a visiting prof from UCLA. Most don't care and most don't even want to know.

You just hit the nail on the head.

are u guys honestly naive enough to believe that it doesn't go on @ Tech?? you honestly have yourselves convinced of that? are u kidding?

i realize b/c some of u went to Tech that u want the institute to come out shining always, well I do to, but I am old enough to call it like i see it.

It's Div 1 people: case closed. I'll comment no further on it, but notice the sig about 'delusional GT fans' and ask yourself if thats u.

Just stop. You don't know what you're talking about.

I'm positive that GT football players take "easier" classes, I'm positive that they're given special dispensation to get them enrolled, I'm positive that they receive additional aid in learning the material they sign up for, and I'm positive, absolutely positive, that they don't get their grades for free.

That's why Tech has things like "Flunkgate" and neither Bama nor Auburn do. It's evidence. You are simply spouting the BS you've been fed by your peers in a state completely bereft of moral underpinnings, stripped of any sense of morality or decency by Bear Bryant, the 2nd coming of Satan himself.

:laugher::laugher::laugher:
How are you calling it like you see it when you've never seen it?

You're babbling about something that you know nothing about. Put up or shut up. If you think you know something, let's hear it. Otherwise stay out of it. You may be tired of "delusional" Tech fans, but I'm tired of people who know nothing about the Institute running their mouths as if they do.

Not to try to put the Institute in a bad light, and I'm not going to cite specific examples because that just doesn't seem like a good idea, but I have personally seen things to the effect of what GTfanNBama is saying(I am currently a student). Like I said, no specific examples...but take that for what it's worth.

IOW, you haven't but you feel like talking ****.

I'm calling BS on this. What you think you see and what really happens are often two very different things. If players get extra time to turn in assignments because they miss class for example.

What gtfannbama is talking about is giving grades to people who haven't done the work or other doing the work for them. If you have seen that kind of thing you need to go to the Admin. Otherwise, shut up. You realize you're suggesting NCAA violation type stuff if going on, right? So if you've really seen something you need to go to the Hill, if you really haven't but like to sound big on a message board then you need to shut up.

Wow, based on that staggering evidence I'm sure the jury would convict. How can we doubt that it occurs at GT now that we've been told that it is Div 1. I've rarely seen such eloquently presented evidence to prove an assertion as this. They never even present it this well on Law & Order and they have scripts (well they HAD scripts, I guess they don't have any more due to the writer's strike).

It usually takes a little bit more for me to believe something than someone saying that "it's Div 1 people." Maybe it does take place but I'd need more concrete evidence than this.

exactly ncjacket.

Yes...players should have great tutors available to them (students do as well btw)....and they should be granted extra time to turn in assignments or have make-up test days. They are on the road (particularly baseball) an extraordinary amount of time, have public/media demands, etc....and are called on the represent our institute in a public way on a regular basis. The scholarship they signed requires them to fulfill those duties...so Georgia Tech is directing their behavior to be abroad.

So...help is there...and should be.

However, the grade has to be earned.

Can they, like any student, talk to a professor after the fact to argue a grade or work on a way to bring it up? Yes...like all students. Some professors may try and some may not. I tried this with a Biology professor and he told me "no dice"...he could care less what I was required to do outside of studying. I had to repeat the course. At the same time, I had a Political Studies professor that was much more encouraging but warned me a make-up exam would be much harder...and it was! Many of my fraternity friends did much better on the regular exam because they used a "word file" at their house. That is life in the big city!

Again...help is out there for students and student-athletes...but the common denominator is that they both...at the end of the day...have to earn their grade because no one will have it changed based on who they are.

All this grade stuff is silly. The kid's heart wasn't it. He didn't want to be here, so he moved on. We'll be fine without him.
