Dontae Smith - CPJ recruit

A GOOD coach makes the most out of what he has. CPJ, according to many, didn't recruit well, and yet he was able to make the most of what he had and win. Collins, according to many, is a great recruiter, and yet he has not done a thing with what he has. Sorry, but I will take CPJ or a coach like him any day of the week over Collins or anyone like him.
But that’s not the argument. The argument is whether or not CGC is a good recruiter.

How has it been a mirage? Every expert recruiting agency has put CGC’s recruiting well above CPJ’s and really all other Tech coaches. He has sucked at coaching the team to wins. That is NOT a direct indicator of recruiting. Tech fans are supposed to be smart, yet so many fail to understand that concept. Be smarter Tech fans. That’s supposed to be our thing.
What? You are talking about stuff that means nothing. “Expert recruiting agency”? All that matter are wins. Unless I missed something and games are now won by recruiting rankings. I understand what you are saying but that was a discussion for year 1 and 2. We are entering year 4 and have become a joke of a program. We are the team that every other team uses to pad their stats. To talk about recruiting rankings is just whistling as you walk by the stadium on fire. We can pick this topic back up when we have our next coach but right now Collins shouldn’t even be mentioned when talking about GT’s history let alone comparing him to Johnson, Gailey, Lewis, O’Leary, or any other coach.

Maybe the "expert recruiting agency" bought the same hype a lot of GT fans got duped by. Maybe the real recruiting experts are the programs that win.

I dunno if anyone ever said CPJ couldn't find good running backs. He left like a dozen on the roster, right? A couple were bound to be really good.

The CGC fanboys have been blaming CPJ for everything since day one of the current regime;
This part is flat out false. I dont think there's anyone out there happy with CGC's coaching right now. The only thing ever blamed on CPJ is the roster that was left for someone to rebuild. Anyone should be able to see our roster is much better now than 3 years ago and it's time he starts winning. Most, me included, felt last year we should have started winning more. Nobody was blaming CPJ for losing in year 3. We didn't and there's no doubt it lies in the coaching part. His contract structure pretty much guaranteed he'd have 4 years so this season is win or go time, and he made changes he felt necessary to better the coaching aspect. Time will tell if it works. If not, I dont think you'll have any resistance from anyone if he gets fired.

:faint:

Yet the starting RB is still from CPJ ... So is he really a better recruiter?
Yes, absolutely. Gibbs (a CGC recruit) would be the starter had he not abandoned ship. And he would have only been a sophomore. So yes, CGC is a better recruiter.

WOW. So you think that no coach in America could have done any better than Collins with what he inherited from CPJ??? I totally disagree with that. I would say that virtually ANY coach in America would have done better than Collins has done.
Maybe he meant to say no coach in America could do worse? I mean, worse than 3-3-3 wins with losses at home to citadel and northern Illinois, and breaking records for the worst acc loss in history, and most points ever given up in an acc game, and most points allowed to UGA, and largest margin of defeat to UGA/Clemson/VT, and posting the 3 worst shutout losses in school history, and having the statistically worst defense in the country?

That actually would be very hard to do worse than. It’s quite the resume

If we'd held this last recruiting class together, maybe, but our best recruits bailed so the improvement is a one off class that didn't even end up sticking around anyways.

Have to factor in transfer recruiting as well though. That’s a recent shift in recruiting.
