They offered him 5 things GT couldn’t.
-coaching
-competitive environment
-national exposure
-a chance to win a championship
-hot girls on campus
I thought Choice did a pretty good job coaching him. Odd that you feel differently.

3 of those are laughable. The Beavers just went to their first bowl in 8 years and haven't had an All-American since 2013 and have never won a natty nor been in the discussion. The Pac 12 is a joke.

I'll give you "Hot girls on campus".
He’s talking about Jamyr Gibbs going to Alabama.

Choice is no longer at GT. Him leaving was a reason why multilple RBs left.
He’ll be exposed to a much better coaching staff at Alabama, odd you feel differently.

How so? I would've easily agreed that our roster this past season was hands down better than what had been inherited, but now we're in a rebuilding year because of mass exodus. Our top recruits bailed, our best players bailed. So, the way I see it, we had one good year of recruiting and it's largely back to the same old same old.

This has to be explained almost every week

Simple question:

Which is better to you- 14 Rivals 5.8 4* or 20 Rivals 5.6 3*

Can we stop with mass exodus nonsense? We’ve average 10/yr before the portal. 13-14 is not a mass exodus in this landscape and not close to our conference foes

Unfortunately that's been true for at least 15 years now. Sad that we didn't want to pay Choice to stay but if it would have kept us from upgrading at OC then we made the right decision

He checked out long before Choice left. Right around the first quarter of the Georgia game in fact. Odd you feel differently.

Well the 4 stars aren't winning, and you've said its not on the coaches the mistakes they are making, so I guess the 20 3 stars that were winning? 14 4 stars also wouldn't be enough to use all available scholarships over a 5 year span, even if none of them left the program. Self imposed scholarship reductions seems like a bad idea, but might just be me.

Nice deflection. These 4* are just now finally upperclassmen. Let’s see if the tough times has made the better

Like who?
Most of the 4 stars CGC signed early on are already out the door - Gibbs, Griffin, Ivey. Yates was a PJ commit and a Rivals 4 star but he's gone too.
Only two who have been in the program more than two years at this point are Sims and Miles Brooks, who really has never played a lot.

Spida Sims
Derrick Allen
Kenyatta Watson

2nd yr guys like Tatum & Edwards will should have big roles this

It isn’t nonsense. In the past we would lose 10 that were end of the bench guys. This year we’ve lost 8 returning starters to the portal; and many of these guys were the highly touted recruits the staff were using as proof points of their recruiting success.

Our total attrition number from the start of the 2021 season to now is close to 30 when you count transfers, injuries, and other early departures that left eligibility on the table.

Remember that time that we lost both of our starting running backs under CPJ (Mills/Marshal)? We would have lost a lot more if the transfer portal and free transfer year had been around back then.

It's not self imposed scholarship reductions. This is what people seem to not understand. We are still taking the same amount per season, but more are via transfer now since there is no 1 year sit out. And sure we have more starters/experienced guys transferring this year but that's another thing with the portal and NIL. In the past we didn't have those or they were end of bench type guys because they could only drop down to FCS if they wanted to play immediately or either would have to get a waiver. Now guys are getting poached with NIL deals. Sure some just wanted out or wanted a change of scenery, but some are also chasing $, and some may not have made it much longer in school anyway.

I think your over thinking how many guys are “chasing NIL money”. Maybe Ivey was, but he also wasn’t happy with numerous things here.

Right as he was about to catch the ball on the opening kickoff is when he checked out. We started ööööing up from the initial touch of the ball and continued from there.

I didn't say how many. I said some. I know 1 for sure, possibly 2. What Ivey mainly wasn't happy with was splitting reps. He had a path to more PT this season but chose to leave anyway. IIRC his family didn't want him to transfer.

I hate to see great skill position players leave, but having extra talent at RB apparently doesn't win games. I'd usually prefer to trade some of those guys for some OL and DL big ugglies who can make a bigger impact on the overall competitiveness. A great RB without a decent OL and passing threat is going to be wasted. Hopefully, the departure of talent will be offset by improvement at other positions. Fingers crossed.
