Dontae Smith - CPJ recruit

Not sure why we can’t just be happy about the guys wearing white and gold this fall without all this CPJ vs CGC idiocy.

CPJ was a much better game day coach. CGC is a much better recruiter/marketer. There is really no counter argument to either of those points.
CPJ was a better "game day coach" because he was the OC. People keep conflating his OC responsibilities and in-game adjustments with the head coach position for some reason, because this superior "game day coach"ing disappeared when the defense rolled out.

So the knock on CPJ's defense was that they practiced all week against the option and weren't prepared for a more conventional offense. I call BS on that and using that line of thinking, would like to know why GC's defenses are even worse?

I simply provided my reasoning why praise for PJ's responsibilities as OC needs to be decoupled from his praise as a head coach. It's literally a separate role. How the defense never measured up to the offense was used as an example to reinforce the delineation between the two. As far as what you commented on, I recall at least one player saying that they practiced against the option. I do not know if that is the reason and did not posit one myself.

I never brought up Collins either but since you did, I do not hold him responsible for the gameday defense (or offense) coaching but on the hires he makes to run them. To me that logic is similar to blaming a technical manager for code that one of his devs wrote because he might have been able to write it better himself. People should be competent in doing their own jobs, which is why I am concerned that Thacker is supposedly still calling plays. At worst I would have preferred for Collins to step into that role similar to how PJ was the OC or Manny Diaz was DC towards the end of his stint, so this is the worst case scenario as far as I'm concerned. I am hoping that there is "some" involvement by CGC and that roster turnover provides a spark somewhere but those are just hopes.

CGC’s defense is practicing against an offense that can’t score points. Isn’t that obvious?

So you are saying that CPJ never used a scout team to emulate what the opponent would be expected to do on offense?

I said nothing of the sort. You injected that into the conversation yourself as an argument to attack. I simply stated that I recall at least one player saying they practiced against the option.

Doesn't mean I'm a CPJ fan. More of an indictment of CGC.
Indictment that he cant recruit RBs? I mean Bama just $tole our best RB that was a a CGC recruit so there's that. Maybe this is the new college football where you better not recruit too well or the big boys will come in and cherry pick?

Collins prize recruit at RB his first year (Griffin) couldn't beat out any of the holdover running backs for playing time. Maybe he was practicing ahead of time recruiting, as you say, not too well.

You do realize Jamious was injured?

How actually did Alabama steal our running back?

They offered him 5 things GT couldn’t.
-coaching
-competitive environment
-national exposure
-a chance to win a championship
-hot girls on campus
So they offered him that,, big deal. Yeah. But they didn't 'steal' him. They offered him that AFTER he left. I'm not trying to defend Alabama so much as trying to throw water on hyperbole. Now if we could prove Alabama talked to him while he was STILL on our roster, then we'd have something. And you might say that was plausible, okay. Prove it before spouting off just cause your feelings are hurt.

This post is disingenuous as hell
How so? I would've easily agreed that our roster this past season was hands down better than what had been inherited, but now we're in a rebuilding year because of mass exodus. Our top recruits bailed, our best players bailed. So, the way I see it, we had one good year of recruiting and it's largely back to the same old same old.

Injured his whole time here? No way. He got in games but never made an appreciable contribution. The only excitement he generated here was the day he signed and Collins jumped around like a little school girl (go back and watch the video).

He was a top RB in Georgia - I danced like a little girl when we got him too. As if the list of things to complain about Collins isn’t already long enough.

You need to add NIL dollars to the top of that list.
Idk if he’s gotten any NIL money yet; maybe he has. I’m willing to bet the other 5 things are more important than him getting a little cash
for a year. The first 4 will lead to much more money long term, the 5th will satisfy him more short term.
