I've got a question: why is it that you, and people just like you, enjoy making ööööing excuses for this sorry ass coach? This guy clearly knows a lot about how to talk to kids, and that's a very good thing. But he knows absolutely NOTHING about how to coach a football team. That much is very clear by what we've seen on the football field to date. Show me how I'm wrong. Jesus ööööing Christ....
You obviously don't watch a lot of CFB, if you did it should jump out on whatever screen you are watching that both lines of scrimmage that GT has are woefully inadequate for the P5 Level.
Simply watch the Line Play for talented Teams and you'll see a chasm between theirs and ours.
There are no magical Coaching strategies nor magical play calls that can overcome weak, lower echelon Talent on both lines.
Just because we change HCs, doesn't mean that there isn't "lead time" involved in changing the minds of Recruits, this is an Area where factories have a huge advantage, when they make changes, the mindset of Recruits is not a variable because they deliver "Bags" & Ford F-150s (or Dodge Chargers) to get Recruits interested.
Your perspective is flawed because you aren't able to look thru the Eyes of a typical Recruit.
For a typical Recruit, 11 years of GT FB playing in a undesirable system has a much bigger impact, in their minds from the Time they were 2nd Graders until they were HS Seniors GT FB was never taken seriously, to them that is virtually their entire Life.
It will take time and I'm surprised that CGC has done as good as he has Recruiting wise.
CGC is trying to Recruit Players that for as long as they have had knowledge of CFB, GT was seen as a sideshow gimmick that gave Recruits a much harder path to the NFL that is already hard, even if you do get Recruited by a factory.
Think of it like a Boxing Match, what you do the 6 mos leading up to a Championship Fight is much more important than any "coaching" that you can do when the Fighter is sitting on a stool between Rounds, at that point it is very unlikely that "coaching" is going to change the outcome of that Fight, either your Guy is Talented or not, either he is ready or not.
Same with FB, the week leading up to the Game and the Talent on your Roster determines if you win, very, very rarely do magical Playcalls during a Game differentiate between winning & losing.
Simply put, at this level all coaches have competed and filtered up the Ranks and know how to call Plays, the difference usually comes down to overall Talent level and then Talent Level at key positions like QB and interior Linemen.
Case study - Ed Orgeron:
Did he forget how to call Plays so quickly?
He seemed to be a Genius just a short while ago when he had 4 - 1st rounders , one of them being the #1 overall pick at a key position -- QB, in all they had 14 players drafted off that Title Team, they had another 10 guys sign UDFA Deals, in all they ended up with around 20 Guys off of 1 Team that were good enough to end up on an NFL Practice Squad or on an Active Roster, and that doesn't count future NFL Players didn't declare that year or were Sophs. that got Playing Time.
Now Orgeron is out of a Job and people think he's an idiot.
Explain how his "coaching & genius play calling" left him so quickly?
The short answer is his Talent level changed, no more Heisman QB, no more loaded Roster, Talent Level made him look like Genius and elevated his pay from $5million to $9million per yr, as soon as his Talent waned so did the effectiveness of his genius play-calling.
To quote former NY Giant HC Jim Fassell - "there are no Geniuses in the Coaching Profession, basically we're a bunch of PE Majors coaching other PE Majors"
